Well, if anyone thinks their cart might need a new battery, they could always compare the board and chips to a real example at the same time, just to be sure.
I used this link to make sure my copy was legit:

Well, I don't have the cart anymore to check, but when my friend gave it to me she told me that it didn't save, and the people at the store that she bought it from said they thought that maybe someone had fiddled with the inside of the cart. I assumed they didn't know what they were talking about and the battery was just dead or something. But seeing the copyright protection thing is making me wonder. Oh well, if it was a pirate, that just sucks for whoever bought it from the store that I sold it to. haha

I remember way back in the day, I was playing Spyro 3 on the PS1, when suddenly, Zoe the fairy chick pops up where I was walking towards, and said something along the lines of, "We're sorry Spyro, but it looks like you're playing a fake copy of this game. Please purchase a retail copy of Spyro Year of the Dragon, and dispose of this fake copy immediately." Then the text box locked up, not allowing me take control of the character or anything.
It was an actual copy of the game, as far as I can remember. Probly scratched up like hell whenever little-kid-me played it.

wacky! don't see stuff like that anymoreAmishSamurai wrote:The most famous version of SNES copy protection is Earthbound, where the game became hellishly hard for minimal reward, in the attempt to make it as un-fun as possible to play. This culminates in the game freezing right as you face the final boss, and then deleting your save files.

There's been a few on the DS. Pokemon Black and White won't give you xp after encounters if it detects a pirate copy. SMT: Strange Journey won't give you random encounters period, making bosses unwinnable because you're so underleveled. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story has an infinite final boss I believe. And The Michael Jackson Experience is the most creative/sadistic of them all.ac_90 wrote:wacky! don't see stuff like that anymoreAmishSamurai wrote:The most famous version of SNES copy protection is Earthbound, where the game became hellishly hard for minimal reward, in the attempt to make it as un-fun as possible to play.
