How do you browse the forum?

Post by Curlypaul »

I've always used the View New Posts link, but I've noticed that I'm starting to miss more and more threads that I'd have been interested in contributing to. Particularly at busier times, threads can zoom thru the active post page pretty rapidly and I never even think to check page 2 of the active threads!

How about you?

My forum bookmark points to the "View your posts" link, mainly because I want to check threads that I have replied to first. Then I go directly to View active topics. From there, I just skim the titles and open threads that interest me.

I guess I'm one of the forum users that benefit from the "Create thread titles that reflect the content" netiquette.

I skim the new posts list, or I search if there's a particular thread that I'm thinking of. Sometimes, it's annoying to search for sales threads because the titles change so I bookmark the sellers I like.

The first thing I always do is click "View your posts" so I can read/reply to threads I've already posted in. After I check those out, then I'll look at new threads. I start by clicking "View new posts" and going through all of them. And if I had time after that, then I would just browse my favorite sub forums.

But lately, I haven't had the time to kill on the forums here. For a few weeks now, I've pretty much just been checking "View my posts" real quick then leaving.

Also, can some one explain to me the difference between "View active topics" and "view new posts," because I really don't see a difference.

I click on "View active topics" which is not that good of an idea, you miss some juicy conversations or topics.

I can't see any difference either, the querystring is different but the results on the page always seem to be identical.

I first click "view your posts," read everything there, then click "view new posts" and read any topic there that interest me. Once in a while, like every week or two, I'll manually browse through the board index.

I go to the index and visit my favorite sub-forums (general, offtopic, games as culture, PC). If I'm feeling up to it, I check other forums too, but those are my go-to spots.
