Best April Fools? Return of Toonami on Cartoon Network

Post by Mechblue »

Ah the good ol' days.. DBZ, Gundam Wing

If it wasn't 4/1 I'd be excited.

From Wikipedia:

On April 1st, 2012, just past Toonami's 15th anniversary, Adult Swim replaced itself with the third version of Toonami, featuring Tom 3.0. The channel guide did not reflect the changes, as is typical of Adult Swim's April Fools' jokes. Several classic shows were aired from the original lineup, with a special focus on season finales or final episodes (excluding Big O, which was instead episode #1). The shows were: Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Outlaw Star, Big O, Yu Yu Hakusho, Blue Sub #6, and Trigun. Tom also did a brand new bumper for the new episode of Bleach, plus a next episode preview.

The revival featured original bumps done by the original voice actor, and the classic promo, Dreams. There was an original game review of Mass Effect 3, giving the game an 8.5/10 while criticizing the ending for being "weak." Also done were original advertisements for DVDs of each of the animes shown in a more adult tone, such as Tom referring to the song, 99 Problems, when discussing the Tenchi Muyo DVD, or encouraging the viewer to enjoy more nudity and violence with the Outlaw Star DVD.

It just started here. (Don't have Eastern time CN) It's a nice throw back.

In terms of April Fools jokes, some of these are getting very good, (like Google Maps, and Skull Girls on Neo Geo Pocket) ... but if Sega announces a new console as a joke, I think I'd cry.

I just saw one of their old commercial/bump/promo things, that I haven't seen in years. Awesome.

Really good "joke", I have to say.

I'm pretty sure that would outright kill me.

Bam, dead, right here. My brain wouldn't be able to handle the lie.

Sucks balls that I missed out on this.

I've always loved Adult Swim for their April Fool's Jokes, but this one seems FAR more elaborate than any of their other jokes. It's not like they were just drawing mustaches and sombreros on random frames of already-running shows.

Getting Steven Blum to do new promos for Tom? That's money. And I doubt they can just air episodes of Tenchi Muyo whenever the hell they want, especially if it was an episode that they never aired before. That's contracts and other legal bullshit right there.

This is way too intricate for it to just be a one-off. I'd be very surprised if this doesn't end up being a test run - and considering the response it's getting on the net, I'd be surprised if CN doesn't have dollar signs in their eyes right now.

I'm ready for them to make the switch back to Toonami, last night was an awesome blast from the past. Adult Swim has done nothing but go downhill.

I swear I stopped breathing for a few seconds when GameFAQs was blowing up with the Toonami news last night. Then I turned on my TV and it was right there.

It'd be so amazing if they actually brought it back, even if it's just weekly.
