A group of Vietnamese youngsters has created a comic strip that promises to take the battle to manga and Tintin

The comic, which uses 3D software to accurately reproduce the Hanoi miliei, is also praised for its vivid description of young people’s lives.

The creators’ clever use of 3D software brings the Opera House, Nha Tho (Church) Street, the Quan Chuong city gate, and other iconic Hanoi landmarks to life.

Its plot is inspired by the Vietnamese legend of Son Tinh - Thuy Tinh (Mountain God versus Water God) in, which one of the long feuding gods fails to win a princess’ heart. A peeved Water God has been rising high to attack the Mountain God every year since, causing the flood season in Vietnam.

But one day three youths find out that the clash actually refers to the traditional fight between good and evil. The intrepid students then find themselves embroiled in a thrilling adventure after finding the power of “good” concealed in some items secreted across the country.

A girl taking off her T-shirt in a public park in Dat Rong (Dragon’s Land) has critics screaming the acclaimed new Vietnamese 3D comic strip is culturally insensitive.

In lighter news Drunken Hanoi customs official crashes into US embassy

Image

A Hanoi customs official, thought to be drunk at the time, created a scene after crashing his car into a US embassy vehicle, threatening embassy security guards and police officers who arrived on the scene.

Dung pulled over, jumped out, and began to swear at the driver of the car who asked the embassy security guards to intervene.

Dung then turned on them, going up to the embassy gate and insulting them using abusive language.

When two traffic police officers showed up, Dung told them he was deputy chief of the Hanoi Customs Department and challenged them.

He smelt of alcohol, the police said, but refused to breathe into a breathalyzer and continued his tirade.

When the officers were writing a report, he repeatedly phoned friends.

Three of them turned up, also under the influence of alcohol, and threatened the officers as they prepared to tow away Dung's car.

Story 1

An irate Cambodian father chained his teenage son by the neck to a power pole to punish him for skipping school to play online games, police said Thursday.

Image

The 13-year-old's public ordeal came to an end in under two hours when neighbours alerted the police who brought in a locksmith to free the child.

"The father was so angry that he found his son at an Internet cafe instead of at school that he chained him up in public for people to see, to teach him a lesson," Battambang deputy police chief Cheth Vanny told AFP, adding that the boy said he was also beaten by his father.

The 40-year-old father, Sok Thoeun, who works as a motorbike taxi driver, fled the scene after the incident Tuesday in the northern town of Battambang, and is now wanted on child abuse charges.

"He is still on the run," the official said. "This kind of torture is not acceptable."

Dad makes 12-year-old son hold ‘I’m a thief’ sign on street corner

Image

Twelve-year-old Jose Gonzalez isn't having much fun on his spring break. But his father hopes it will be a week the Denver-area youth will never forget.

The Denver Post reports that after Joseph Gonzalez found out that Jose had stolen $100 from a cousin's wallet, he forced his son to stand on a downtown street corner holding a sign that reads, "I am a thief. I took money from a family member. Don't give me money."

"I think it's, like, fair," Jose says in the video. "I was kind of mad but sad at the same time because I thought I was gonna be embarrassed a lot."

But his dad isn't worried about any psychological scars or the public notoriety gained from Jose's punishment. "Nah, he's only 12 years old," he said. "Everybody makes mistakes at that time in their life. It's about being corrected."

One of the oldest DVD piraters has a good reason for doing what he does.

Do you think the MPAA is going to sue him?

Will they look even more villanous if they do?
