It still works as a cheating device...

Chop it up? What the hell is wrong with you people?
Yancakes wrote:Yeah, but I don't like chopping shit up like that. Back when I was a kid, my Dad had an ESL student from Japan, and he would bring back Genesis games for me. My Dad would grind off the chunks of plastic on the carts so that I could plug them into my Genesis and play them.

Sadly, I don't own any of that stuff anymore, I would love to, but I also, basically, refuse to fuck up my systems at this point. Especially when my converter came so cheap and easy.
Well we're just a world apart on this one. Grinding chunks off of Mega Drive carts so you can shove them in a Genny slot is far from breaking the tabs off from inside a SNES cart slot. The tabs are a total of like one cubic inch. And they're super concealed, you'll never see them. So even if you don't manage to break them off gracefully, it's not like it will matter much. You refer to this as "fucking up your system," but I find that far from the truth. Perhaps widening the cart slot of a Super Famicom to accept SNES carts I would consider as fucking up the system, maybe, or drilling holes to add switches or something like that. The tabs snap off easily, almost as if they were meant to be broken off. It completely perplexes me when people are afraid or unwilling to do it. There's nothing electrical involved, and it's nothing your ever gonna see (really, how often do you peak inside the cart slot?). If you're the kind of person that doesn't trust him/herself to do something, then that's something I can understand. But outside of that, there's no reason, in my opinion, not to break those tabs off. It's child's play. It takes about 5 minutes to do, and you wont have to use a converter, so I see no downside to it.

But, whatever floats your boat. I'm just saying.

God, I really hope that image/tutorial was a joke. That's the most God awful thing I've ever seen. A hack saw? Really? Couldn't find a better tool to use than that?

The Game Genie comes apart easily with a standard screwdriver and about 20 seconds of your time. Opening it up gives you better access to those tabs. So even if you were hell bent on using a hack saw, you'd be able to cut the tabs out easier, more cleanly and without removing a huge chunk like that. You'd get a result more like this:

Yancakes wrote:theclaw, my Famicom<>SNES adapter is a Caesar (one of these). This guy sold his for 31, I paid 25 and it came with Super Mario Kart for the famicom. Even if the adapter typically sells for less than that online, the fact that I got it in town made me jump on it.

I can't actually find much info about it online, though.
Yeah as I pointed out this type of adapter is not common.

I dunno. Doesn't seem worth ignoring Super FX and other enhancement chip support. When cutting the same tabs on SNES will provide it permanent, no cartridge to lose/damage.

Except that none of the good games that use enhancement chips are Japan exclusive, according to Wikipedia's list. I mean, sure, you could get a much better deal on Rockman X3 than Megaman X3, but getting games cheaper isn't enough of a reason for me to chop off part of my SNES.

That's why you wait until able to afford getting it done properly. Look how close the Game Genie picture has filed things down. A meticulous cut would not be recognizable, clean factory quality job.

I use a Nakitek Game Saver. Costs about $20. No mutilation involved.

holy crap removing tiny, discreet, generally unseen tabs is "mutilation" now?

it's not like we're talking about hacking up a Power Base Converter to fit on a genesis 2.

I would never take a blade to my sweet lovable SNES.

Oh and my "mutilation" comment was referring more to that Game Genie/hacksaw job.

Wow. I did it by simply removing the case, and cutting them off with Dremel w/ a small cutoff wheel, and used the drum sanding wheel to make it flush. Very precise; no mutilation.

Oh I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to insult anyone or anything. This is just the type of stuff I couldn't do. I'd loose a finger or something.
