YouTube alternatives...
Re: YouTube alternatives...
Glad you got it sorted out. Enjoy.
Re: YouTube alternatives...
Well yes and no. If the computer has old SDRAM or DDR1 or DDR2, it will be VERY cheap to add more. If it uses RDRAM (RAMBUS), it will probably cost more than it's worth. Depends though. If the computer has 512MB of RAM, I'm assuming (if it's Windows) that it's XP. If the computer is older than that, with a version of Windows earlier than 2K, I wouldn't bother adding more RAM.dsheinem wrote:You do realize that RAM is extremely cheap these days, right?elmagicochrisg wrote:Anyways, I only have 512MB RAM, so my PC slows down too much with add-ons...
Anyways, if it is XP, unless it uses RDRAM I would just max the RAM out. 512MB is just way too little for XP now. Even new from NewEgg, it'll be pretty cheap (maybe $50 to max it out). And there's always the used route, though I would definitely run memtest86+ on used RAM.

Do it. You won't regret it. If you shop smart, you can pick up a 2GB DDR2 stick off ebay for $20-$25. I imagine DDR memory is even cheaper (I assume that's what your PC uses, if it's so old it only came with 512MB of RAM).elmagicochrisg wrote:Yeah, maybe I should look into it and make this one of my priority purchases in the near future...dsheinem wrote:You do realize that RAM is extremely cheap these days, right?

Must've had a brainfart. Just checked and I have 1GB DDR2 RAM.
I remember looking into it in the past, and I know my motherboard can only take 3GB RAM max.
So I guess that leaves room for 2GB extra...
Oh yeah, it came with Vista, which is what I am using.
It was my first PC. Bought it 5 years ago...
One thing I know for sure. Firefox with just a few add-ons always fucked my PC up...

My Vista PC that I'm using right now came with 1GB DDR2 RAM. I put in a 2GB stick, and it runs much faster now. You might want to look into buying a new video card as well, if you're still using whatever the PC came with. Also, a newer processor. My PC was a cheapo bought in 2007, but with those upgrades it's now able to run MW2.elmagicochrisg wrote:Must've had a brainfart. Just checked and I have 1GB DDR2 RAM.

I think this is terrible advice. If you're going through the effort of upgrading your RAM, processor and GPU, why not just buy a whole new computer?BoringSupreez wrote:My Vista PC that I'm using right now came with 1GB DDR2 RAM. If you shop smart, it's a heck of a lot cheaper. I did all this for about $100 total.sabrage wrote:I think this is terrible advice. It depends what the computer is. If it's some cheap HP from Wal Mart, I think I'd pass on upgrading the hell out of it.
