I remember it wasn't really bad at all being a sega fan in 1999. I remember funcoland selling off sega saturn games cheap and I picked up great games also the genesis games were very cheap and I made huge by going to flea markets because sega carts were everywhere and snes carts also. Ebay wasn't big back then and you can make a killing getting great games for dirt cheap prices

Well by spring of 97 I had gotten into the world of nintendo. I was a huge Sonic fan which is why I got into genesis in the first place. Obviously between 94 and 97 there wasn't jack in the way of sonic besides Knuckles Chaotix and 3D Blast. And 3 years is a hell of a long time when you're 10. So I started drooling over Donkey Kong Country screens in an EGM and got a snes. A few months later I got an N64 and that was that. The Saturn at the time was still expensive. I remember really wanting NiGHTS but that was about it. I read that Sonic the Fighters was going to come out for saturn but it never happened. And Sonic Xtreme got canned. All my friends had N64, it sort of felt like the standard at the time. I had a subscription to Nintendo Power (Augh) for a couple years so my gaming news was limited. Then sometime in 99 I picked up some other magazine and saw screens of Sonic Adventure. So obviously you know where I was on September 9th.

I still played lots of PC and PS1 games, so I was fine. There were plenty of good games coming out then, let alone playing catch up on all the fantastic games that were released in 1998 which was an insane year on just about every platform. That year we got:

January 21 – Resident Evil 2 (PS1) (1999 for Win/N64/DC, 2003 for GC)
January 29 – Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sat)
February 11 – Xenogears (PS1)
March 13 – World Cup 98 (PS1) (Apr 30 for Win, May 18 for N64)
March 19 – Descent: FreeSpace – The Great War (Win)
March 29 – Parasite Eve (PS1)
March 31 – StarCraft (Win) (2000 for N64)
April 30 – Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven (Win)
May 6 – Warhammer: Dark Omen (Win, PS1)
May 22 – Unreal (Win)
June 30 – Banjo-Kazooie (N64)
July 31 – Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (Win)
July 31 – Heart of Darkness (PS1) (Aug 31 for Win)
August 21 – Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (Win) (1999 for N64/PS1, 2000 for DC)
September 3 – Metal Gear Solid (PS1) (2000 for Win)
September 10 – Spyro the Dragon (PS1)
September 27 – Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit (Win) (Mar 25 for PS1)
September 30 – Fallout 2 (Win)
September 30 – Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (Win)
October 30 – Grim Fandango (Win)
October 21 – Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (N64)
October 31 – Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome (Win)
October 31 – SiN (Win)
October 31 – Heretic 2 (Win)
November 19 – Half-Life (Win) (2001 for PS2)
November 21 – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) (2002 for GC)
November 21 – Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft (PS1, Win)
November 30 – StarCraft: Brood War (Win)
November 30 – Thief: The Dark Project (Win)
November 30 – Baldur's Gate (Win)
December 3 – Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (Win) (Dec 7 N64)
December 12 – Falcon 4.0 (Win)
December 17 - Suikoden II (PS1)

Just playing a small number of those kept me busy until 9/9/99. XD

It didn't really suck for me much at all, to be honest.

I was young, and had skipped the 32 bit generation, so was still rocking my Mega Drive and picking up games cheap. At that point, I was so f*cking hyped about the Dreamcast, that being a Sega fan was actually really exciting for me. I couldn't wait to get my hands on one and all the screenshots of the games in development looked awesome.

I remember the hype of the Dreamcast back in school, 1999. Sonic Adventure was prominently mentioned.

Didn't turn out so great, but go figure.

I hope you're talking about Sonic Adventure, and not the Dreamcast.

Resident Evil 2, Gran Turismo, Goldeneye, and occasional Genesis games. Oh and FFVII.
