Yeah, it's always the drunk guy who thinks he can sing.

It's like that episode of Full House where Kimmy Gibbler gets ripped then thinks she's the life of the party.

I find it much easier to zone out on repetive games, like shmups or arcade racers. Racers in particular I get to a point where I switch off and let my thumbs do the thinking and then I really start to fly. Awesome feeling

I just read about two games that reminded me of this thread, so I thought I would necromance the topic:

Speaking of which, I read a rumor that they're making a sequel to El Shaddai...

I always think of playing shmups as a meditative experience. One break of concentration leads to BOOOM.

the last time I did acid, I played tempest 2000 for about 5 hours. It could have been five days for all I know. I eventually rememebered that things outside of my house existed, promting me to gather my wits and go have a smoke. Its the only time have had any affection for my jaguar.

I have experienced some trance like experiences with some of my most beloved shumps. Time just kinds slows down when I play them. Almost like I can see all of the bullets!

I bet that was a heck of an experience. I had a similar one playing shadow of the colossus, riding around on the horse just checking out the landscape and I literally felt like I was in the game for a good few hours (probably was more like 10 minutes.)

As far as zoning out without the use of illicit drugs, I don't get them often. I'm usually too alert as to whats going on around me to be able to zone in on a game for more than few minutes. However, I got deathsmiles last week, and I got in the zone hard on that game. I don't have much experience in that genre, and I think that may be what did it for me.

I'll update tomorrow as "emotionally drained" qualifies as an altered state of consciousness.

Attended a funeral. Consoled my brother in law (it was his best friend, not my sister or wife). Consoled the parents of the deceased.

I'm not super down in the dumps, but I feel...kinda feel like when someone kicked my ass in a hockey fight (um, I promise that's only happened once and he and I threw the gloves first).

Back on topic: I need a "pick me up game" and I'm thinking Hyperstone Heist.

Dyad looks pretty cool.

Child of Eden is an all time favorite of mine. A few of my friends that actually do some hard drugs on occasion call it Child of Acid. :P
