I thought it was funny how the manual refers to the power-ups as "L" and "B", when it's pretty obvious they are "alpha" and "beta". The manual itself even refers to "alpha-beta blocks".
My first few plays had me thinking ABB was the best robot, with its bouncing discs. However, the discs are extremely weak. Then I discovered BBB. It's ridiculously good, mainly because the bomb attack knocks the enemies back. It also makes it easier to pick up the power-ups, since you never need to concern yourself with which type you need.
Some of the other robot forms are completely useless. The yo-yo thing is almost unusable, and the flamethrower thing is unusable.
Shatterhand - Holy shnikes this game is good

Shatterhand is freakin amazing. Graphics, sound, and the fact that it came out in 1991 it might have slipped under NES players radars.
BBB is one of the best combinations. I use it exclusively in the first stage, and if you match the same symbols again with the current bot you have in your possession, you earn a special power suit with 15 seconds of invincibility with a powerful shot. I use it to run into the first level boss and it usually kills it off right away.
A classic by Natsume. If you want similarly awesome platform action, check out Shadow of the Ninja.
I LIKED Vice Project Doom.... sure it might have been a little sloppy but it did have a good story....

Shatterhand is freaking awesome, sad I missed out on it as a kid. But better late than never! I played it myself last year after a friend showed me it, loved it.
