How much do you pay for retro games
How much do you pay for retro games
I have been looking thru the turbografx games on ebay and they are just as if not more expensive than the snes games lately. I was just wondering how much money would you spend the most on retro gamming. It could be anything or any classic system. For me it's probelly 30.00 the most and it must be a game like castlevania or super metroid or something I know that I want to play to beat and not just sit on a shelf.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
I'd easily drop $200 on a single retro game if I knew I would enjoy it enough to make it worth that money.
I've spent over $100 on so many games I can't keep count. Its a damn expensive hobby, you can either have a lot of cheap stuff, or a few really nice things... or be rich and have everything.
Of course, check the price. Make sure the game holds value. I may spend over $100 on a lot of games, but I trade/sell those games for over $100, as that is what they are worth.
Putting your money into games that will decrease in value, or overpaying for games out of impatience, will end up losing you money.
Oh... and I don't buy games that sit on the shelf anymore, seemed a total waste. If I want to look at a physical copy of a game, but not play it, I'll just look online. Thats just me though

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
Right now, I would gadly pay 300€ for a working OutRun cabinet.
My budget allows for more games that I really want to play so I shoot for quality. If that quality comes with a higher price, so be it. This is why I would rather buy a boxed Castlevania than the entire loose trilogy.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
I try to avoid spending too much. Thankfully my interest in the super-expensive game market (like Neo Geo) is pretty limited.
I'm not too picky either. For instance, when to comes to PS1/PS2 games I don't differentiate between regular and greatest hits editions. It simply makes no difference to me. To me it's all about the gaming experience, the superficial qualities don't matter much. That said, I do seek out complete CIB copies as often as possible, especially if it's a disk based game.
I can read Japanese (not that well but good enough), which is helpful when shopping for PCE and Saturn games. I get those for a fraction of the cost of North American versions.
I already splurged on a couple of games this year: Lunar 2 Complete and Ys Book I & II. Both costs over $45. I don't see myself going over $40 for any other retro games this year.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
I rarely spend more than $10. My collection is large enough that I don't really feel the same "must have" feeling I used to. I have about all the PS2 and Gamecube games I want now, which are the consoles I have primarily collected for in recent years. Occassionally I'll buy for the N64, SNES, or NES, but not often because my NES and SNES are sadly not hooked up at the moment.
With PC games, most of my retro purchases are via gog.com, so the price point is already set within my standard of $10 or less.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
For me i guess what i spend depends on if it is for me i think i splurged for 90. once.
I would say most my games are below 10.i prefer to find stuff in the wild cheap.
If i am shopping for foxhound then i will spend big money final fight revenge set me back almost 150. to get it state side but it was worth it to see him opening the package.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
If it is just a game, usually $30, with sub $3 being an almost instant purchase. Cabs is where it gets tricky (though I dont really want to own too many more than I own already). But everytime I feel bad when I try to buy an expensive or full priced game - I just compare it to a hobby alot of my family partakes in, model trains. Then I feel alot better about it. Then it is a "My game only cost $50" scenario.

Re: How much do you pay for retro games
Typically $6-15, but then again I tend to hunt for cheaper games and hidden gems. The more mainstream ones go for $15-25, with RPG carts going upwards to $100 (see: Earthbound).
Re: How much do you pay for retro games
For me I would try to drop 10-20 dollars almost every other week. If I wanted a game like super metroid or gunstar heroes I would just save for a month or so. Well I try to anyways. I see a good deal I will buy it so maybe I do spend more than just 20 or so a week. I have to stop splurging and start playing these games I own.
