Re: Funimation channel FiOS removed
I went to search up info about it as soon as I read the banner on the channel, and to my surprise, March 15th is the cutoff date. Pretty sad news, though I can see why.
Not bashing the channel or anything, but they play the same things over and over, and series tend to progress in story very slowly, with a new episode coming out each week. Inbetween new episodes, they just constantly play the old episodes in the same order, so I can see why views might be dwindling.

Funimation dubs are also terrible. That doesn't help.

Are you kidding? In my opinion, Funimation makes some of the best dubs, period. They just get some character's voices off, is all.

While there are certainly things that irk me about Funimation dubs, I wouldn't call them anything near "terrible".
Re: Funimation channel FiOS removed
I also think a lot of hate for the Funimation dubs comes from people who were exposed to the japanese dubbed versions first, and have already associated the japanese voices with the characters (which means even if Funimation's dub were decent, it still sounds "off".)

overall I enjoy dub version just for the humor sake. I love Chobits, black smith, baka and test, hetalia, cazador de la bruja, Birdy the Mighty, B gate H kei, soul eater. I knew when death note came out on cartoon network it was hard for me couldn't wait for the english dub. Some networks wouldn't show these type of R rated anime. The worst time of dubbing is when they try to milk the dragon ball franchise to make good anime for america and remove violent /blood scenes. Every time I hear Goku and his friends it sounds like there doing number 2 during battle. : )

Funimation dubs just horrify me. Their voices sound waaaaay off. Doesn't help that all their series use the same actors. You could say that they're better than a lot of 80s and 90s dubs, but that isn't saying much. They still often sound like glorifies fan dubs.neilencio wrote:I also think a lot of hate for the Funimation dubs comes from people who were exposed to the japanese dubbed versions first, and have already associated the japanese voices with the characters (which means even if Funimation's dub were decent, it still sounds "off".)
Then again, I find most English dubs to be terrible. If you like dubs, that is fine. I can respect that. The only ones I can usually enjoy are those by Disney (for Studio Ghibli) and other large studios like Sony. For instance, Paprika has a great dub. These dubs scream quality. They actually have good actors, and they obviously take the time to make pretty much every line sound spot on.
Anyway, I'll stick to the Japanese audio.
Now if Funimation would just release series that they licensed 2+ years ago...
Re: Funimation channel FiOS removed
I'm on the opposite end. I grew up watching anime with tagalog(one of the philippines' major dialects) dubs. It sounded cheesy most of the time and they tend to reuse voice actors a lot, but we didn't mind. So I rarely have a problem with english dubs. (Besides, I haven't really watched a show with voice acting that is on par with Castlevania: SOTN.)
This was back in the late 80s-early 90s, before the anime-otaku thing started happening. We didn't even know the term anime yet. We knew Voltes V, Mazinger Z, Daimos, and Astroboy came from Japan, but it's not really that big of a deal that time (They were well loved because they were good cartoons, the country of origin didn't matter.)
