You mean besides how the anticipation is killing us, and how we've generally liked your choices so far, and how you're doing such a great job? :)

Well, except for that last pick, but hey, to each their own.

While Tengen's Tetris does have multiplayer, it also has something that I consider a pretty big flaw: randomly generated piece selection. That is, the next piece is always selected randomly. This can result in getting the same piece multiple times in a row. The Nintendo version properly weights the piece generation, so pieces that have not shown up in a while have a higher chance to appear.

I think this makes the game a little more fun, and also makes high score comparison slightly more legitimate.

There is that difference, but I feel it adds to the challenge. The Nintendo made Tetris is too easy for my taste.

Random = legitimate without a doubt. Doesn't Nintendo's Tetris start with the same pieces every time? Just becomes a contest of memorization, rather than skill in manipulating blocks.

The fact that SM includes pirate carts (HQ ones mind you) throws in a bit of variety. I would argue some of the arrangement, but as you said, to each their own.

Also, TENGEN TETRIS 2P-S MODES FTW. (Although I remember a discussion over which was the superior NES port, the big feather in Nintendo's cap was that Tengen version suffered from forced input delay when the stack goes too high compared to the Nintendo version where even at high speeds, you could still maneuver the blocks deftly.)

Also, as a note to Little Samson, you forgot to mention multiple stages had branching paths and boss much like the Mega Man 6. (And by SMB USA you missed noting the "2".) Plus, plenty of great games still had ugly airbrushed art. Check out SEGA's Phantasy Star or Valis run from their Genesis days to Guardian Heroes on the SS.

So, yesterday I typed out your whole list to see it all at once. Now that the sixth one is posted, I'm realizing that there are more than five left that ought to be on your list! :lol:

Yeah, there's no way I'm going to please everyone with my overall list, but that isn't a goal of mine to begin with because its impossible anyway.

What I will do is write up another quick maybe 50 or 100 honorable mentions that didn't make the list, but I did consider. If your favorite NES games missed my top 100, they'll probably fall into the honorable mentions at least.

Wait, what the... Wasn't this already named (much farther down)? I don't doubt the historical impact of the game, but "polished" isn't a word I'd use to describe the quality of the cart itself. (A little weirded out that White Mage is still "female" -- it wasn't canon, but the idea is so popular that I think that it has become ret-conned.) It's one the earliest Western-style RPGs on a console (the game becomes totally non-linear after picking up the first orb and the clues you get are pretty erratic), even pushing aside the multitude of D&D references and bestiary.

(Also, I wouldn't say the entire team got back together for FF2j; programmer NASIR was absent until FF3j, FFV, and SoM.)
