I've never seriously considered any reproductions. I guess I just have more than enough games already.
I don't really consider the modified SFC carts to be "repros". I mean, it's a game that came out only in Japan, so you buy the Japanese game, then mod it so you can read it. I think it's actually more collectible than what the internet calls "repro" carts, which are really just nice looking bootleg carts. But that's neither here nor there.

Some of the SNES repros are some of the best games the consoles have to offer. I haven't played all of these yet, but Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2), Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia and Final Fantasy 5 are all amazing SNES games. If you like the SNES, you should consider playing these games (assuming you've already played all the greatest state-side games). There's always flash carts, which is the best option in my opinion (completely ignoring emulators and copiers).

I'm playing this one without looking at any guides. I have the strategy guide for FF4, and I was glancing at it now and then while I played through the game. But I honestly find using guides to be annoying. This game I'm playing blind. So when I got up to Atmos, I was really surprised. He opened up with two of those comet attacks in a row and KO'ed some one. I knew I was coming up on a boss fight, but I was thinking it was gonna be Gilgamesh again, which has pretty much been a pushover every time. I wasn't prepared for it at all, but luckily I was able to beat him on my first try. I had three party members get sucked into another dimension LOL, but luckily my Knight was left and I was able to take down the last few thousand hit points in a couple of quick turns.

At this point in the game, my Knight has mastered his job (since I never switched his jobs). So now that he's mastered, I switched him to Mystic Knight. I didn't feel like switching him to anything else and dealing with a trade off. I have another character that just mastered white mage, and I have her up to level 3 as a time mage now. I'm trying to get my black mage to master red mage, but I also use him to summon. Not sure if that's wise giving him all three tasks. I might try to get my Knight to learn summon so I can better focus my black/red mage, but then the knight will lose his double grip ability for the summon ability. The last character was a thief for a while, now he's a ninja. I was thinking about switching him to the samurai class when I got it, but I think the ninja abilities are better.

Am I being effective? I didn't really read any guides on the job system. Just a little about what abilities I can get with the classes I'm using, but nothing other than that.

Why not? The way your playing it sounds pretty ideal to me. I myself ended up favoring the Ninja a lot over the Samurai when I played Advance as well. Do you have the Hunter though? Their final skill can be extremely deadly if your Knight character learned it. It's pretty obvious once you get it... and combine that with the Ninja, ah snap, or the Knight for power.

I'm not sure about your Summon/Black/Red focus though, two offensive types there (Summon/Black)... but that's me. I think I mentioned it earlier, but I did Black/Time, and White/Summon/Time for my two main mages, so they were fairly versatile.

Atmos, hahaha. Yep, no pushover there. And you're getting closer to an even tougher fight. FFV doesn't mess around.

Tough battle dude. I was way too weak, but I ended up winning because casting Bahamut at the right time causes him to retaliate with Osmos instead of Big Bang.

What a nice ending. Looks like Cecil and Rosa finally got married. Not sure what he sees in her :D

What did you guys think of the storytelling in this one? I think it was really good at the beginning and then took a backseat to brutal dungeon crawling. As much as I love those dungeons, I would have liked to see Cecil developed further.

The story itself blew hard compared to the likes of 6 and 7, but the characters were great.

Oh, I see. It's a 4x attack that's slightly weaker than your normal attack, but ends up being stronger because you hit 4 times. Hmm, that sounds great. The only thing is that if I have my Knight start learning Hunter, I'll have to sacrifice some attack power until I master the Hunter job. I'm kinda liking the Mystic Knight, with the status effect swords. I've been using sleep a lot. I used it every time I fought that metamorph dude, never got hit once!

Maybe I'll have my Ninja master Hunter to get that 4x attack on him. It'll still be a trade off for a while, but at least it wont be on my strongest attacker.

Well I read that the Red Mage can dual cast spells, so that seems like a really good thing to have. He's almost mastered Red Mage at this point, so I'm definitely gonna keep it. Though I suppose I wont be able to use the !Summon command and the dual cast command at the same time, so I'll either have to switch the summon ability to another character or drop it all together. I guess that's not a problem if I can dual cast black magic, but it'll suck up MP a lot faster.

Basically, I was going for my FF4 character setup lol. One character is white/time mage, which is Rosa. Another character is black mage and summon, which is Rydia.

I can really see why you would wanna play this game a few times in a row, there's so many jobs that I'm not even touching, but they do sound pretty interesting.

So Mystic Knight + Hunter is considered god tier, since the damage from the mystic knight sword isn't diminished when you 4x attack. Not to mention you get to hit weakness.

The way the red magic dualcast works is that dualcast lets you cast two of any spell command your character has equipped, and dualcast automatically gives you red. So if you equip dual cast and summon you can cast 2x of low level white and black magic as well as summons.

Oh, I see. Amazing! So should I keep that character on Mystic Knight for now, and master Hunter later in the game if I wish? Or would it be better to master the Hunter job now and get it out of the way?

Ah, cool, so I can keep it that way. I'll just be missing out on the higher level black magic, correct? Which I guess is an acceptable trade off since I would be able to dual cast.

I'd master Hunter ASAP, bu that's me. And yeah if you haven't figured it out, a Ninja with 4x attack will attack 8 times with their dual wielding. 8)

I thought the Hunter was actually pretty good to use after awhile when you get some good bows, a lot of them had status effects and stuff like that.

I tried using Mystic Knight off and on but never focused on them too much, never though about the status effects though. As you said, there are so many ways to play this game so I can't wait to replay it and experiment with other classes.

Funny you're basing some characters off FF4, haha since I did the same with Bartz and did a Knight/White Mage focus for a lot of the game.
