I replaced the 72 pin connector a few months back which helped but didnt completley fix the blinking, I then decided to disable the lockout chip last night (I clipped the right pin) which fixed the blinking light, however the video now on the screen is completley disoriented, the only thing on the screen that you can really tell are are the sprites (like of maro and luigi on the start up of SMB3) the audio works great though. Have you ever heard of this? Also I see a few forums online of people replacing a capacitor on their rf box, however the people with that problem was getting a gray screen, I have a screen of jumbled colors. Could this be my problem? Looking at the contacts of the capacitor they look sort've like they may have blown(black scratches surrounding them). Or could my problem have been disabling the lock out chip? I've never heard of this happening, I just find it odd that it happened right after I disabled the NES 10 chip. Any answers would be great I want to play Zelda 2 and Megaman bad.
Also to rule anything out, the cartridges were cleaned and working prior to my misfortune.

Have you tried with the composite output instead of the RF so see if you get the same results?fredthezombie wrote:I replaced the 72 pin connector a few months back which helped but didnt completley fix the blinking, I then decided to disable the lockout chip last night (I clipped the right pin) which fixed the blinking light, however the video now on the screen is completley disoriented, the only thing on the screen that you can really tell are are the sprites (like of maro and luigi on the start up of SMB3) the audio works great though. Re: Major problem with my NES
Yes, I have only been using the A/V's, I don't use RF's unless I have to, thanks for the quick reply though
Re: Major problem with my NES
The 10NES chip might need grounding. I don't think it is the problem though, maybe you shorted something inside while you had the NES apart. Even unplugged there is still a little stray voltage. You can drain by powering on and off a few times while the console is unplugged.
A pic of the capacitor? If swollen might need changed.

Re: Major problem with my NES
here is a link to a pic of the capacitor, it is the one on the top right near the A/V's http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en ... 00&bih=732
and I have checked, mine doesn't seem bulged, but like I said before the contacts look kind of sketchy however not disconnected, I am just confused as I have opened the system multiple times, (cleaning and testing 72 pin connectors mostly)

Re: Major problem with my NES
Unless there's bulging and/or actual goop (ie. electrolyte) seeping out of the "X"-shaped vent atop the cap (or around it's base) it's hard to definitively say it's failed just by looking at it.
But I'm doubtful that it would cause garbled graphics anyway. Since the problem seemed to follow clipping the pin on the lockout chip, can you temporarily reconnect it and see if the graphics look normal again?
[Edit] - Oh yeah, and be sure to try games in both the "up" and "locked down" positions with your new connector as they can screw with graphics due to how the stiffer pins contact (or don't) the cart edge.

Re: Major problem with my NES
Thanks good to know, I noticed the up and down position it does the same thing, I was going to try reconnecting the pin but it snapped off in the process, sadly I think I will need to get a new NES but they seem to go for a lot more then what I remember them costing I got mine for around 20 bucks a few years ago now I see them around 50-60 any ideas or suggestions?

You could always check the buy/sell/trade forums here. There might be someone here with one for sale at a decent price.fredthezombie wrote:Thanks good to know, I noticed the up and down position it does the same thing, I was going to try reconnecting the pin but it snapped off in the process, sadly I think I will need to get a new NES but they seem to go for a lot more then what I remember them costing I got mine for around 20 bucks a few years ago now I see them around 50-60 any ideas or suggestions?
