Best time to hit up Goodwill?

Post by harper »

So I've been thinking lately, has anyone noticed if there's any particular day of the week that seems to be especially good for going to thrift stores (not just Goodwill)? I mean, I know that finding stuff is all about luck and chance, but statistically I'm sure there has to be some kind of pattern.
I'm sure most people drop stuff off on the weekends when they have the time, or after a yard sale, they'll drop off the stuff that didn't sell. So I always want to go on Saturday afternoons, but they may not have the stuff new set out yet, so then is Sunday a better day?

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, I'm just curious if anyone has seemed to notice a pattern of luck when it comes to finding stuff at Goodwill or anywhere else. I usually go on Tuesdays lately because that's the only day I really have the time and I usually don't find shit. Maybe all the good stuff is gone by then? Or just not there yet? Anyways, share your thoughts and/or stories. Even if you never have any luck, I feel your pain, so feel free to share.

I don't know about day of the week, but morning is always the best time to hit up my Salvation Army.

I suspect that there's generally no real pattern at all.
A possible exception being if your store's employees have a habit of wheeling out the new crap treasures at the same time of day. Then you could potentially scoop something up before someone else (assuming they would have also wanted it).

* Weekends & special storewide sale days are always the busiest, but that doesn't mean you won't still find something good.

* For what you do find, make sure you pick it up and hang onto it while deciding if you want it. If you put it down while deciding it becomes fair game again.

Yeah I haven't noticed any particular schedule that they go by. But yeah if I see a game or something that I think I might want but I'm not sure, I always carry it around with me. I'd rather decide I don't want it and have to put it back then go back for it later and realize someone else snatched it up. That would really suck. haha

Sunday afternoons and Monday midday. Those are the two times that they have the most stuff processed from after garage sale drop offs.

LOL yeah I had that happen to me. Nice Dell ATW101 mechanical keyboard for cheap ($2), unfortunately I only had my credit card on me and charges required a minimum $10 purchase. I should have just grabbed a bunch of random stuff, but I had a class coming up and didn't want to waste any more time. I figured I'd come back with the cash and get it afterwards. Of course I get back there and it was snatched. :(

Oh really? I hear stuff about thrift stores all the time, went to Goodwill here last month, all they had for games were PS1 titles mixed in with music CDs. Makes it real fun to search! Oh, and a few PC titles. Thats it. No cartridges or anything of any value.

I need to move to a better part of the country where they have magical quantities of real games!

I've found that Goodwill constantly brings out new stuff on the floor. You just need to check back every now and then and hope you'll find something.

Good point. At least it was better than the SA store selection here. Maybe I'll find that one of a kind DC title in with those CDs eventually :D
