I will say this: of the last 5 weddings I went to, I think 4 were for couples who met online (OkCupid, to be specific).
Interesting. I've been doing online dating off and on for about the last 5 years and have had the least amount of luck on that site. I've had slightly better luck on "Plenty of Fish" and Craigslist personals... but yet I'm still single today.
I think OK Cupid generally has better quality women than Plentyoffish. But they do tend to reply less and be pickier on that site. Especially since they have a match system, like eharmony (so I'm told).

OK Cupid was always popular among my friends as it's free and seems pretty easy to use.
Years ago, I made a troll account on the site just so I could view my friends' profiles, but now I can't figure out how to delete it lol.

I don't think Karl Marx is going to get many bites.

As far as platonic relationships go, the internet can be an amazing place if you connect with people best through discussion and [written] conversation. But I think that's obvious to everyone here, since we're hanging out in a forum and all.
I met one of my best friends in the entire world on a Whose Line is it, Anyway? messageboard when we were both fourteen, and we regularly exchanged five-page e-mails and had hours-long phone conversations up through college. When I finally flew out to stay with her for a week as an undergrad (at that point I'd met up with her only once before) I was terrified we'd have Weekend_Warrior's problem -- "no chemistry" -- because even regular friends need to mesh well. All our years of bonding was no guarantee we wouldn't drive each other crazy when stuck together in-person. But it turned out to be this amazing and surreal thing, because we felt so at home in each other's presence that we would literally forget, from time-to-time, that we hadn't grown up in the same neighborhood. To take a moment to remember that we hadn't been hanging out like that every day of our lives felt strange, like it was scenario experienced in a different dimension. I'm not explaining this well, but believe me, it was crazy.
I think romantic relationships can be found and sustained online. I certainly considered myself a serious girlfriend to someone on the internet whom I'd never met in person several years back. But I was also a teenager then; I don't know if I'd feel differently now as an adult. What I can say for sure is that written communication, usually over the internet, was a necessary part of the wooing process with any boyfriend or crush I've had. In many cases I'm not the best phone-talker, but having deep discussions over AIM at 2AM was totally my cup of tea.
