Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
Ugh, metalcore (and deathcore) is awful. There were some great pioneers in the genre (Starkweather, Acme, Rorschach, Unruh, Catharsis), but the new stuff is just straight up balls.

She definitely sounds different, but she sounds great! I really, really liked the Dark Passion Play album, and have listened to it so much.Forlorn Drifter wrote: Also, how's the new Nightwish singer? I only have Once on CD, and haven't really got into them besides that.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
I think she's a perfectly fine vocalist. Problem is, her voice is not distinctive. She's easy to confuse with many other female vocalists in metal, but she is talented and she clearly puts in the effort. Still, Tarja's voice is more instantly recognizable, as are vocalists like Liv Kristine, Simone Simmons, Marco Hietala and Matt Barlow.BurningDoom wrote:She definitely sounds different, but she sounds great! I think Nightwish have been very consistent, even after firing Tarja. DPP, Once and Imaginaerium are all excellent. Though Imaginaerium (which I'm probably spelling wrong) is much more ambitious than Dark Passion Play

What do you think of the new Nightwish album? It seemed like more of the same to me. Better than the last ones, but not different enough - I felt like I had heard it all before. I keep going back to Century Child when I listen to them.
Enjoying some rocking Euphoreon though. Sooo catchy.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
Well they have a style now that works for them. I like it. They did experiment though with this album. The spaghetti western music, jazz music, the kid choruses, and a different type of instrumental in Arabesque. There's a theatricality to this album that I like. Hopefully, the movie will be just as impressiveValkyrie-Favor wrote:What do you think of the new Nightwish album? It seemed like more of the same to me. Otherwise I agree. There's some good stuff I'd call "metalcore" that everyone else calls "mathcore" like Into the Moat and Ion Dissonance, but it's largely a noob trap for wannabe metal fans.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Oh yeah!
