N64 Game Help
So, I'm trying to fill out my N64 collection. I really have a lot of love for the system, but the games themselves are... decent, but somewhat lacking. I have Harvest Moon 64, OOT, Goldeneye, and Mario. The last 3 I'm getting rid of because I wasn't satisfied with them. I plan to pick up the following for sure, any other suggestions? I don't want any collection-a-thons, or wrestling games. No Conker's either.
Star Fox 64
Doom 64
Hexen 64
Majora's Mask (I might play with this on the emulator some before making a decision.)
Sin and Punishment
I also looked into Ogre Battle, but I became bored about 15 minutes in...

Are the 4 you mentioned the only ones that you have?

So you weren't satisfied with the 3 best games the system is generally known for? Are you trolling?Forlorn Drifter wrote: I have Harvest Moon 64, OOT, Goldeneye, and Mario. The last 3 I'm getting rid of because I wasn't satisfied with them.
I really like Banjo-kazooie. By far my fav platformer ever (I'm sort of like you, Mario 64 is good but not my style)
Jet Force Gemini - a third person shooter. Awesome game! My favorite shooter on the N64. Some people don't like it, but since you seem to have different taste than most people you may like it.
Super Smash Bros. - Slower, clunkier, and more simple than the sequels and my favorite in the series.
DK64 - ehhh.... I have a love hate relationship with this one. A solid platformer but way too much backtracking for my taste. And I personally think 5 playable characters was just too much.

Ehh, not really into the platformers on here. Too much collecting for my taste. I also tend to avoid shooters that aren't good with "single stick control", like Goldeneye. Doom 64, on the other hand, controls amazingly.WiseFool22 wrote:So you weren't satisfied with the 3 best games the system is generally known for? So you don't like platformers, Goldeneye, or OoT. Are you sure you even like the N64? Hahaha just kidding. Can you give some examples of what games you do like?Forlorn Drifter wrote: Ehh, not really into the platformers on here. Too much collecting for my taste.

Re: N64 Game Help
so uh, no 3D platformers, pretty much no FPS, no Zelda (Majora's Mask plays really similarly to OOT), no Wrestling...
...that pretty much just leaves like, a few kart racing type games. Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, the Snowboard Kids series...
You've pretty much said you dislike the bread and butter of the console so there's not really much left.

Re: N64 Game Help
Majora's Mask is very similar to OOT in some very obvious ways, but it also is a lot more...would "involved" be the right word? You kind of have to play quite a bit into it before you'll really get the gist of the gameplay, so personally I think you should go all or nothing with it, don't try it out on an emulator, just go with the real deal. I say that because personally I think emulators give you enough of a taste to kind of spoil the surprise. That's why I don't like to use them, even to "try before I buy".
But anyway, what about something like:
Misson: Impossible, Rainbow Six, Knife Edge: Nosegunner, or Blast Corps?
Honestly those are just random picks from what I personally own and like, but as with everyone else, I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for.

I think you'll enjoy Blast Corps, Robotron 64, Rogue Squadron, and Battle for Naboo. Lots of nice racing games like F-Zero X, Wipeout 64, Ridge Racer, and Beetle Adventure Racing are also worth checking out.

I'm not against 3D platformers or FPS's- just not collectathon platformers or FPS's with that kind of control. I just can't stand it. I will be happy with Doom 64 and Hexen 64, thank you very litttle.

Re: N64 Game Help
Look into Forsaken 64, Body Harvest and Blast Works.
- Forsaken 64 is an awesome niche shooter. If you like Doom and Hexen, this is well worth looking into.
- Body Harvest is a quirky sci-fi sandbox title, that embodies the general mechanics of the GTA series (easy to say, since Rockstar developed this game before GTA)
- Blast Works is a nice little tank game were you relentlessly blow crap up. Tons of fun.
You might wanna try the Duke Nukem titles they released for N64. I've heard good things about them.
