Saints Row: The Third & Fourth
Re: Saints Row: The Third
Just finished the game. It does have a few clever moments, but the story didn't make sense nor was it interesting. This sequel doesn't improve on SR2 in any shape or form, but if you like sandbox games and haven't played SR2 this might be worth your time. Maybe GTA V will move the genre forward, RDR was a pretty good game that didn't bore me the way GTA IV and its DLC did.

Finally a comparison, yeah I was afraid if this one wouldn't surpass or improve upon SR2. It looks like maybe they went too over the top with the silliness in this one? Whereas SR2 just had some good humor throughout, it still had a great story, characters, and moments like that here and there.
I'm sure I'll still dig it and want to pick it up sometime, but yeah. I was wondering how it measured up to SR2...
With GTA heading back to San Andreas (the suburbs is where it's at in these games I'd say! The big city idea was alright for GTA IV, but yeah...) I definitely think GTA V is probably going to be amazing. Buying properties and flying are some of the things coming back, potentially playing as an older Tommy and CJ again, I'm stoked.

Well I'm 60% in and I guess I'll just echo Pulsar's thoughts above. I imagine I've crossed the line and there isn't anything mindblowing ahead, or it's "going to change", etc, so yeah... I don't think this really matches up to SR2 at all. It's still a lot of fun to kill sometime, but SR2 was a lot more engaging, better story/characters, and seemed a lot bigger in scope.

Joystiq.com wrote:The next in a line of classy, reputable DLC packs for Saints Row: The Third is Gangstas in Space, and it's lifting off from Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on Tuesday, February 21 for $6.99.
Gangstas in Space is the second of three downloadable add-ons included in THQ's Season Pass, which snags users 15 percent off the total price of the DLC packs when bought separately.
Gangstas in Space sees the Boss and new character Jenny Jaros attempt to make a movie... in space. A series of new missions (that may or may not include blow-up dolls) will feature an alien invasion, which shouldn't be too different from the Earthbound missions. The aliens will probably be wearing less outrageous clothing than any of the people you've fought previously.
^that looks hilarious.

Re: Saints Row: The Third
I have this game since November and haven't bothered picking it after the first 4 days of playing with it.
It's just so .....boring for some reason. Like a Michael Bay movie. Explosions and crazy game situations are only fun when they have some kind of build up (an interesting story with likable characters would have been a big part of this, but for some retarded reason Volition decided to kill its most liked character in the opening mission
), and are one of a kind treats.
SR2 was amazing cause it paced the crazy stuff just fine. SR3 gave you so much stuff from the start that you just didn't see the point in playing the missions. They were all rinse and repeat.
What makes even less sense is who the first bad guy you kill is. If the game had any build up and story before, it lost all of it after that missions
And I don't have high hopes for GTAV either. It just feels like another realistic take on the genre. Yaaay, more flying through my windshield whenever I crush. More cover shooting gameplay. More depressing storylines and characters, which aren't serious enough (cause this is a video game) to actually make me care about them.

I'm not feeling excited for SR4 at all.. watched the review videos and it's just underwhelming. Perhaps GTA V will be a worthy rival to Sleeping Dogs.

Sleeping Dogs was that good? I downloaded the demo on steam but it was slow and buggy as hell so I quit right away.

To me at least Sleeping Dogs was the best fun since SR2. The Windows version can be troublesome for some, but I managed to whiz through it on modest hardware.

They better bring back my Emu. Fully decked out it was the most fun I had in the 3. Driving it up staircases and boosting it onto rooftops was insane.

Re: Saints Row: The Third
I thought Sleeping Dogs was a decent GTA clone with martial arts thrown in. Not great, but it didn't do anything poorly which is a big plus in my book. An overall well made game.
Played Saints Row 3 with only the knowledge that the first two were good. I read that 3 was disappointing but it always sounded like the series was GTA if it didn't take itself seriously and that appealed to me. I played the first mission and wasn't really feeling it. The control felt really loose to me and as others have mentioned I think it was a little TOO "zany" for its own good.
