Budget android tablets

Post by GamerMON »

I have been in the market for a budget tablet for a while. I have considered the kindle fire but recently I saw this on groupon http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-skypad- ... c=deal_img Reviews on amazon seem mostly good and this a US company with actual support. Root access right out of the box and a community developing ICS is the selling point for me. I plan to mostly use a tablet as around my house as an e-reader, light gaming, and web surfing. Thoughts? Alternatives?

My wife and I both have a Kindle Fire and we love it! Everything works great on it from e-reading to the web. I highly recommend it! I also found this to be a more affordable alternative to the absurdly overpriced iPad. Seriously, you can get a freaking laptop for the price they're charging for those damn things!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

So do you really use the web comfortably on the Kindle without resizing it? I do a lot with my iPad and I still find some websites to be too small. Reading magazine PDFs like N Gamer is more comfortable but many times the text is still too small. I would like to see a a larger format iPad such as 12" or 14".

I do agree that the iPad is overpriced but it's worth it because of the wealth of apps/support for it. I also find the interface to be more responsive/snappier than the Android counterpart. Still $500 is a good chunk of change to drop on it so I can see why people want cheaper alternatives.

Save your money and buy a Windows 8 slate when Windows 8 releases instead. This MIGHT be influenced by the fact that I now work on Windows 8.

The transformer line as a whole is very high-quality.

Yeah I have been considering the transformer. The key option looks well designed. My wife bought a fire today. Her 5 year old mac laptop finally became a brick today  . I thought about turning my blackbook into a tablet but I am way to lazy. I will see how her fire plays out. Are any tablets coming out with ICS installed out of the box yet?

Depends on what I'm doing really but yeah it seems resizing is necessary on tablets. I'm not anti-iPad, I just think the price tag is a little heavy for them. My brother in law has one and it's great but I'm on a bit of a budgets so I found the Kindle Fire to be an excellent alternative! :D
