Still the best game of all time.
I'd also say that Strago shouldn't be able to cast traditional magic (only blue).

I finally remembered to load my game today after finishing Mega Man X, and my characters are around level 25. I'll probably finish this game over the weekend.

I just beat the two Lunasaurs in the Lunar Subterrane and Cecil is at level 59.

Man, some of these bosses are a pain in the ass! I got killed by Plague twice, I beat him on my third try. Unless your party is strong enough to kill him off in one pass, I see no other way to beat him other than a little trickery. I went in with Cecil dead, that way I could revive him at the last second and get some more time to kill Plague.

Plague is harder than the Evil Wall, IMO. At least with the Evil Wall you have a lot more time, and a chance to cast Slow on him. With Plague, he casts Doom on the entire party straight away and then continually casts Haste on you to speed up the process. I think going in with Cecil dead was the only way I would have been able to beat him.

The point that I'm at right now (the save point around Plague and the Lunasaurs) I feel like I can troop on to the end of the dungeon. I have like 50 cabins, I could just keep retreating to the save point then going on. But my inventory is full, so I think I'll exit at least once more to the surface and unload. I figure I'll max out things like Hi Potions and Remedies since I have like 3 million Gil right now.

The money in this game is just a joke. Never once did I have to grind for money. I always seemed to have enough Gil to always buy the best (at the time) equipment and still have enough money to keep more than enough supplies on hand. The only time I ran out of money is when I went to buy all the Paladin equipment before going through Mount Ordeals, I didn't have enough to buy the entire set. But after coming down from Mt Ordeals, I was loaded again. By the time I reached the underworld, I had around 100,000 Gil. I thought it would go down after hitting up some of the weapon/armor shops down there, but it only went up! Now that I'm in the Lunar Subterrane, the money situation is just obscene. Three million Gil? I've never heard of such a thing!

This is the complete opposite of FF1, where it seemed like for every town you reached there was new weapons, armor and spells to purchased. If you wanted them, you would have to grind for a half hour to get the cash. 99% of the time you grind in FF1 was to actually get money to buy better stuff. Leveling up was just a happy side effect of getting money.

Glad you're enjoying the game Ziggy, definitely a game every RPG fan needs under the belt. The final dungeon itself is pretty tough, but like others have said be prepared for some brutality with the final boss. You're playing the PSX port correct? The final boss has some seriously nasty attack patterns, a lot of it comes down to luck though. I hate spoilers of any kind myself so I'm gonna refrain from talking about it too much, but yeah. It's one of the harder final FF battles. There are a few cheap-o tactics you can utilize, but for the most part the boss is just a beast and you need to manage things properly (especially if you're playing in active mode).

Definitely true, but that's one of the things I really liked about FF I and older RPGs in general. This is how Dragon Quest III is, which I'm currently playing for the first time, and it's reminding me of FF I every step of the way.

The final boss is so hard yet so amazing at the same time. Unleash absolutely everything you've got at that point, buffs and whatnot, just go nuts. You don't want to hold back, unlike with Kefka, or Sephiroth, or... lol.

@ brunoafh: Yeah, I'm playing the PS1 version. And I keep the option on wait rather than active. I don't see why I should get pelted with attacks while I'm searching for an item.

That stuff I said about FF1, although true, was party in jest. I really like that game. Well, the PS1 version at least (I hate the NES version).

@ Xeogred: There's no way to save after you beat the final boss, right? I noticed that you can use Edge's throw command to chuck weapons in your inventory. So besides any Fuma and Shurikens I have in my inventory, and the knife I got from Yang's wife, I would suspect that throwing high power weapons like Excalibur should give a lot of damage too. If there's no gameplay after the final boss, no reason not to throw those things!

I liked the PSX / GBA version of FFI myself, beat both of those in the past.

For the PSX version of IV, yeah that's the end of the road so you can go crazy with the throwing. There's a big optional near endless mega dungeon in the GBA/PSP ports though, I never bothered with it myself but it sounds like it can be just as long as the game, lmao. Same with the FFV extras...

FF I extra dungeons are where it's at imo. I liked the IV extra dungeon, but man the extra FF I dungeons in the PSP version were the shit.

I actually did the extras in FFI myself on the GBA I think. Was the PSP version the same thing? I'd still like to get that version sometime since the port of FFII was awesome, visually looked great too.

They added yet another secret dungeon in the PSP release. If I remember correctly, it's a multi-level dungeon that has a time limit with puzzles, requiring you to sacrifice attributes to gain more time (like no black magic, half defense, etc).
