I'm sorry.. but the Wii is just a piece of crap.
I'm sorry.. but the Wii is just a piece of crap.
I sold my Wii ages ago. Even with it modded and having access to ripped games didn't make it worth keeping. Mario Galaxy was cool. And so was that one other game. But, still. Craigslisted it. Now, I admit I want to play that new Zelda. It looks fun, even with wagglemotion which I hate. So I ask my buddy Nick if he'd mind lending me his Wii. Sure he says. No problem.
Guy doesn't have component cables for his Wii so I figure that at $17 for the MadCatz ones, I don't mind just picking them up especially since the official ones are hard to find. Somehow Nintendo thinks that a progressive signal is something that "no one uses" so they don't make very many. Just like the Gamecube ones. So I get home and try to connect them and I get sound. But no video. Ah, I think to myself - I probably have to reset the resolution settings. Makes sense. Even the Xbox and PS3 do this (albeit ridiculous) rigamarole. So I do the reset thing. No video. Just sound. Well, now I'm thinking I got some shitty cables. That tends to happen with MadCatz. I figure I'd test with the Madcatz composite cables. Sound. No video. Hrm.
OK, lets bust out those official Nintendo 1982 edition composite cables and see what happens. Sound. No video.
Really?
I start thinkin'. Well, I DO have this 7.1 setup that has an HDMI out (and into my TV) set up, maybe that's the culprit. I mean we all know the Wii is 1980s tech compared to the original Xbox and all, right. So lets get the AV reciever out of the way and go straight into my TV's component connections. Sound. No video. OK this is bullshit. Lets try the composite cables again. Sound. No video.
Well then, maybe Nick's wii has a video problem. Gotta be it. No other explanation. Wait, I have an old CRT tv in my wife's office that she uses to play DVDs. lets try there! Component cables = Sound. No video. Ok, lets try composite cables: VIDEO AND SOUND! WOW THIS LOOKS LIKE UTTER SHIT! OK, lets try to get the EDTV/HDTV setting going. Ah, its greyed out because of the composite cables. Well lets do the green cable trick. Black and white video with sound, as expected. Ok, EDTV/HDTV setting is enabled. Let's shut down, and try again. Composite cables: no vid, just sound. Component cables. No vid. Just sound.
What_the_fuck. Seriously.
Ok I figure, you know what. Fuck this POS. I'm downloading Dolphin and a Skyward Sword ISO. Game comes up beautifully but the WiiMote with the motion plus built in isn't recognized by the emulator yet (or at least very well, etc etc) so I can't play the game. It just sits there waiting for me to 'connect the motion plus dongle that should have been built into the fucking system from the ground up but it wasn't thus necessitating people to buy yet another trinket to play a fucking game that should be playable with a standard control scheme in the first fucking place.'
Seriously Nintendo, I wanted to play your game. I really did. But your worthless little shit system just doesn't want to play with my TV. I know its not my TV. The xbox works fine. The 360 works fine. The ps3 works fine. I don't even want to play a pirated version of it. It's just not worth the headache.
I'm not going anywhere near that Wii2. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Same, never had an issue with connecting the video for the wii, which i do pretty often between components and av. My main complaint about the wii is the battery always running out on the wiimote.

Well it's a good thing that the Xbox 360 and Ps3 never have technical issues, right?
1980s tech compared to the original xbox? What?
I guess you don't realize that the Wii is a few hairs more powerful than the oxbox...
This is really, really dumb.

I am sorry but we don't need another Wii is crap thread. I can't understand why you are having trouble hooking it up but, I can tell you one thing its not the wii's fault, probably a faulty cheap cable. I have hooked up my Wii to many different TVs with no problem, component and composite
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

I've used the 'official' cable that came with the wii as well. Same problem. It's not the cable.pepharytheworm wrote:I am sorry but we don't need another Wii is crap thread. You and the vast majority of this forum.pepharytheworm wrote:I have hooked up my Wii to many different TVs with no problem, component and composite
However, one person has had technical issues with the console. Since all other consoles ever have never had any technical issues with anyone, that means the Wii is a piece of shit and deserves the utmost scorn.
