Okay, here's some background info: I hadn't played it in several years so I got it out and hooked it up. The power would not come on, I opened it up and found that the reason the system would not turn on is because the screws on the motherboard were too tight so I loosened them and it did the trick.
Now after finally getting the power to turn on, it won't play any games, I get nothing but a black screen. I know the cable works because when the system is off, it's on the static channel 3 screen. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Try cleaning the cart connector and your games, I'd rule that out first.

Well I did clean the games before i tried them. Also, it worked last time I used it and it was packed away in an airtight box.

Re: Genesis Model 2 Won't Play Games
I had this happen to me with a model 1
It simply died. Didnt use it for about 5 years.
It was one of the original genesis that I owned since the late 90's
Some one else owned it before me. Good thing I have 2 more of them.
but I was sad to see it go.
I heard the same thing can happen with N64's too.

Do you know if this a direct result of not using it? If so, I'll have to start rotating my N64s so they won't get depressed from neglect and die. haha

Clean the cart slot anyway. It might have a light layer of corrosion from sitting due to humidity.

Cleaned the cartridge slot and still nothing. I REALLY don't want to have to buy another system.

So does anyone have an idea what could be wrong or should I start looking for a new one?

Unless you see some leaky caps or something obvious I have no further ideas.

Re: Genesis Model 2 Won't Play Games
Okay, I opened it up again to try some things. It worked perfectly when the motherboard was taken out of the case. After some troubleshooting, I put the motherboard back in without the metal casing under it and it worked. How important is this metal sheet?
