Has Final Fantasy jumped the shark?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I don't think you're using the same definition of "mature" as I was using in that post. I meant because they're darker and more brooding in a sense.

If what I meant wasn't obvious enough then I feel sorry for you.

I think you're totally right.

9 is undoubtedly the best between 7-10. There's really no contest.

Though as you said, I'm in the minority when I say that.
I'll give IX a chance, then. IIRC it's much cheaper than VII.

It's the moment they've gone too far. In particular, it refers to the moment that The Fonz literally jumps a shark on water skis in the Happy Days.

I despise every FF games since 8... I liked 7 aight and loved 1,4,5,6 allot. I don't know why I feel compelled to buy every POS that square makes that ruins the Final Fantasy nameplate. I guess its the video game equivilent to Highlander, but I can say I would watch Highlander 2 multiple times before I ever put another hour of gameplay in FF8

I actually liked 12 though most here seem to not. Battle system wasn't too bad, though the hunts became tedious. I liked some of the characters and the story.

I'm not fair on 9... Hated the art style... I only got about 2 hours into it.... Only one in the series I haven't finished.... It may be a great game, but I don't really have enough time to invest into a game that I'm not that I will like.

I'd say it's worth it if you're a fan of the 16-bit games. It doesn't totally feel like that era and does have some of the bad quirks of the later era games (prettyboy villians and melodrama here and there), but it's all around rather solid. A much better game than 8 and 10 for sure.

I feel like it's a bit of a last hurrah from the franchise before it hit the point of no return. I'd say it's worth giving another fair shot, it's pretty inexpensive now.

I did everything in FFIX, it was pretty awesome but I do think I like FFVII a lot more personally. For some reason FFIX is one of those weird games that I just don't think I'll ever replay, never really get the urge too. FFVI and FFVII I've beaten the most and will still keep replaying those forever! FFIV and FFV are epic too.

I agree for the most part actually. IX isn't as good as the best of the 16-bit days, but it's a really solid game in its own right. I kinda feel like if it wasn't called "Final Fantasy", it'd probably have a big cult fanbase.
