But as soon as Sak left, the series went into Activision-style milking mode, with FFX-2, FFXI, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts 2 and on, etc. Final Fantasy XII would have been a bright spot, had the characters not been so incredibly flat and undeveloped. God damn, how the mighty have fallen.

Wish I could say where FFXIII stands in all of this, but honestly - I don't plan to ever play it. Ever. Fool me eight times, shame on you. Fool me nine or more times, shame on me.
I think you might be right here more than anyone. That sort of makes me wonder though, about that game Sakaguchi's working on now for the Wii, "Last Story". The extremely Final Fantasy-esque title and logo do seem pretty suspicious:

I'd be keeping my eye on that for sure if I were you.

I really, really hate what they did to Agrabah. I love Aladdin and all, and I was expecting something like Traverse Town, where there were townspeople in the market, and you could talk to different people. That's what interacting with worlds should be all about. But no, I get an empty world with nothing to do but fight, and frankly, it's one of my most hated worlds.

The magic carpet sequences weren't that great in my opinion, but anyone else thought they should put a lot more time into making more interactive Disney worlds?
It's a good point. Honestly, I think all I remember from the KH games are epic boss fights. Everything else was just sort of meh

In all honesty, I do like the Kingdom Hearts games, but their far from perfect in my eyes. For example, they tend to screw over certain characters (i.e. Setzer and Vivi), overemphasize other characters to the point of advertisement (Final Fantasy VII), the Synthesis quests are far drawn out longer than need be, the missions in 358/2 days repeat to the point of predictability, and the less said about Atlantica in KH2, the better.

I've just gotta say this, but my favorite thing to do in Atlantica in KH2 is play Under the Sea.
I've gotta admit, Donald and Goofy don't do too much in it, but Sora throws in some good vocals.
And the fact that it's one of the examples I'm looking for when the main team plays a part in the actual story from the Disney movie.

I feel like FF jumped the shark when it came into the world of 3D. That's right FF7 was when they jumped the shark. By this, I mean it's when FF changed into a different type of game. I'm not saying it was bad (because it wasn't), I'm just saying they changed everything and it didn't feel like a FF game. It felt like a whole new series.

Has anyone made a FFXIII movie yet? I'm not interested in the game at all, but if there's a halfway decent story.. At least it has to be better than Advent Children

You know the fact that Final Fantasy has some of most impressive cutscenes in the industry, yet doesn't give you the option to rewatch any of them like a lot of modern titles do just shows how screwy the universe is

or maybe it just shows that Square doesn't know how to get with the times. Seriously, why aren't things like this standard options in video games today and why the hell are people STILL making rpgs with no new game plus feature?(Once again, I'm looking at you Square)

FF 13's story starts out good. Even though some of the characters are cliche(Lightning is basically Cloud/Squall with boobs)there are some nice character based moments and it's interesting seeing how everyone interacts with eachother. Later on though, the game starts to focus more on the plot than the characters, and given how weak the plot is, things start to get boring. Have to hand it to some of the villains in the story though, they actually end up being more interesting than the main characters despite having less screen time

One big flaw to the story that someone mentioned on another forum i went too, is how the story keeps building up to your characters getting to a place called Gran Pulse, and while the bulk of the post game is there, storywise, it's just a quick little footnote. Lot of wasted potential there. FF13's story isn't fleshed out enough, and the main characters get less and less interesting the further you get into it

I wish I had known that FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus was a 3PS and not a swordplay game. :/

I really liked Crisis Core. It really is a great game. Dissidia was a lot of fun, but for gameplay reasons only. I think Square in general has lost interest in the series besides as a money machine - the loving attention to detail is something we don't see in the newer games. I liked FFX okay, but it wasn't great. FFX-2 was silly and indulgent but it was supposed to be and I thought it was fun. XII had some great dungeons that I really enjoy, but the story and characters were really lacking. XIII has been beaten to death already. I think they're trying to pander to the lowest common denominator (being North Americans?) and I really don't understand - their entire series had been selling really well over here. FF7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 all sold millions. They didn't need a new audience.

I'm past being mad about it, but I just don't understand how it happened.
