Best N64 RPGs?

Post by pankakes123 »

So I've been really into the N64 lately. I'm normally more of a SNES guy when it comes to retro gaming but I'm just mixing it up a little by focusing on my N64. I'm currently playing through some great classics like Diddy Kong Racing, Pokemon Snap, and Banjo Kazooie. However one game I've enjoyed a lot, this being Quest 64, but it doesn't quite do it for me. It's a good RPG, but I'm wondering if there are any great RPGs for the N64, other than Ocarina of Time because I've played it already. I'd like to note as well that I actually really like Quest 64. It has a great relaxing soundtrack paired with simple gameplay. It's the ultimate chill out RPG and has a fair amount of charm. So anyway, could you guys please list some good N64 RPGs. They don't have to be MUST BUYS or anything, just good fun like Quest 64. Lastly, keep it in a fair price range. I'm only 15, so I don't have much cash right now.

Thanks :)

Besides the ones you listed, there's Ogre Battle, which may or may not be to your tastes, and Majora's Mask. That's really about it.

yeah. theres very little stuff for rpgs on the 64

Playstation exclusives really messed up nintendos chances of good rpgs.

Squaresoft prefered CD media.

I guess you can go with Paper Mario.

but the price for that game can vary.

My personal recommendations:

Majora's Mask- Although I can't say I really consider Zelda games rpgs (besides Zelda II), since it has been mentioned I'll second it. Because it's a freakin amazing game. But expensive.

Paper Mario- Playing it now for the second time. Fun game but it is pricey, sometimes it's possible to snag it for slightly less than $20 on ebay.

Mega Man 64- I guess it'd be considered an rpg, it kinda plays like one. I haven't played all the way through it, but what I have played was pretty engaging. Unfortunately, also pricey

Gauntlet Legends- Retains classic Gauntlet dungeon crawling but with RPG elements. Your character levels up by killing monsters and can have up to 4-Players playing simultaneously. Good fun going solo but if you can get people together it is a blast.

There aren't any standard RPGs worth your time on this system (Zelda is a action-rpg) you are better off checking out PS2, PS1, SNES RPGs. That was one particular genre Nintendo abandoned for awhile.

Shadowgate seems like it could be good. It's in my stack of games to try asap.
