Can you mod a wireless PS2 controller into an arcade stick?
If I had a wireless PS2 controller, and an arcade stick, could I some how make the arcade stick a wireless one? How tough would it be?

Soldering the buttons of the stick to the contact pads on the board for the wireless controller.

do what he said. 8/10 difficulty. you have to know how to solder extremely well.

Can certainly be done. I wouldn't do it though.. Just adding input lag. For games that use an arcade stick you'll generally want as little input lag as possible.

and if anyone on this board knows about lag...ZenErik wrote:Can certainly be done. I wouldn't do it though.. Just adding input lag. For games that use an arcade stick you'll generally want as little input lag as possible.

It mostly depends on the size of the traces of the board for the controller you're cannabalizing. It could be fairly easy if you're handy with a soldering iron or is could be tiny wire madness. Making one from an old 8 or 16 bit pad is easy as there are usually nice big spots to solder to. Something new enough to be wireless is a toss up to whether it is a pain or not. You'd need to remount the charging jack or provide battery access too. Just things to think about. Maybe search on Benheck or Shoryuken for people making custom sticks to get an idea.noiseredux wrote:so fairly easy then?

You're lucky I use a wired arcade stick on fight night.noiseredux wrote:and if anyone on this board knows about lag...ZenErik wrote:Can certainly be done. I wouldn't do it though.. Just adding input lag. For games that use an arcade stick you'll generally want as little input lag as possible.

As Hobie posted, just match the pads to the buttons. Be sure to cut the traces inside the Arcade controller, you want each button isolated from each other. One other concern is if the housing is metal or too thick as to interfere with the wireless. Also if an older "line of site" infra wireless, you might need the "window".

no, it's no the IR wireless, but good point about the thick casing as a concern. I'm not sure I'll do this or not, it's more an idea for a project that might sit on the backburner for a while. But more or less just trying to figure out how possible it is.CRTGAMER wrote:Ahem: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 49#p292949
