Did someone say... science?
Image
It is a scientific fact that Square is incapable of making a villain theme that can rank better than #2, which, by the way, happens to be Kefka's. Itoi's law states that no human force can compose a better song, villain theme or otherwise, than His Highness Theme. You don't even need to type in "Mother 3 His Highness theme" into youtube. Just type "Highness", and it's the fourth result.

You don't mean the original original Final Fantasy II, do you?

I do.

I loved the individual experience system. MARDEK is a great spiritual successor to it.

How? That game is so bad it breaks my wrists as my hands attempt to flee from the controller.

I dunno, the game sounds broken, but it sounds very easy to break in your favor as well if that makes sense.

I'd say the PSP version is the most balanced though, compared to the PSX/GBA versions. Maybe they're similar, I'm not totally sure but the PSP version is the one that finally hooked me in and I finished it.

PSP has the prettiest graphics, but it's based on the GBA version so it should be the "way too easy type" right?

Yeah, but the methods for breaking it in your favor are still genuinely painful. Want more health? Just club yourself in the face over and over again and you're golden. And really, that's a perfect metaphor for the game in its entirety. Leveling up spells takes quite a while, but never fear! There's an abusable glitch that allows you to repeatedly select spells and target enemies to gain skill points, but that doesn't change the fact that you still have to repeatedly grind levels to make your spells remotely useful. It's just one notch down on the ladder of agony, it's like upgrading from getting repeatedly smacked in the nards to getting repeatedly punched in the eyeballs. For spells, you're looking at 250-500 cast/cancels to fully upgrade. Each.

Having said that, the remakes are definitely playable and really not even the same game.
