I loved Chrono Cross for the first few hours, but it quickly became tiring. I reached a point in the game where I couldn't progress quickly because I didn't know where to go to continue the story. Every time this happened, I just randomly entered every zone and talked to every person until I would find the plot advancement trigger I was supposed to be looking for. I guess that is the challenge to the game, since battles are virtually impossible to lose.
I wouldn't have minded this type of game when I was younger -- I used to play CRPG's like the early Ultima games, and sink hundreds of hours into them, trying to talk to everyone and soak up the atmosphere and story -- but eventually, Chrono Cross grew too tiresome and I just quit.

Re: Chrono Cross thread
Reads thread. No mention of the art and beautiful hand drawn backrounds.
If I wasn't at work I'd post some screen shots for you all to bask in.
Re: Chrono Cross thread
That's a little funny considering Chrono Cross is very short, to be honest. Think it only took me like 20-30 hours to complete even on my first runs.
I love it, but as I always say I like CT a little more for the simpler storytelling, futuristic elements, and all that. I liked CC's battle system but bringing up Xenogears is a good point... I don't think it really compares to how fun Xenogears' was, too bad over half the game seems to be the mech battles though which I didn't think were quite as fun.
I'd also say CC has probably the best backdrops and art on the PSX, simply stunning and beautiful stuff, up there with FFIX I'd say. Even if I prefer a lot of other JRPG's on the system, no denying these two games had insane backdrops.

I love Chrono Cross. It's probably my fav PS1 game. I even own a copy of the soundtrack.
Re: Chrono Cross thread
It was the first PSX game I bought when I finally got a PSX, heh. Good memories.
Then I traded my skateboard to a friend for his complete, black label edition of FF7 that I still own and seems to be worth a good bit now. lol

I'd say Flake nailed it pretty well. Those were my main 2 issues with the game, but all around it was still good.

That's what I think of it. Too many characters, don't really care for the tropical setting, miss the DBZ art style, but still a good game.GameMasterGuy wrote:Not as good as Chrono Trigger, but it's not half bad.
