I HIGHLY recommend the Phoenix Wright games. Start witht he first one, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. It's one of the best modern cult classics.

Good on you for loving Retro Game Challenge - import the sequel! GameCenter CX 2 is everything the first game was but better. Now it follows the retro game era from the early Famicom days all the way up to the early 90s with Super Famicom, GameBoy and even GameBoy Color style games. In addition to the new games there's special versions of games from the first such as Cosmic Gate, Haggleman, Star Prince and Rally King Time Trails.

Be warned though that the game is entirely in Japanese, and one of the games required for advancement is a Japanese text adventure. There are a few handy guides online if you are totally unable to read Japanese. The rewards for getting past this barrier are great though; the second game just is oozing with polish.

It'll play on all models of the DS as well, so don't be afraid of it being rejected for a region locked DSi or 3DS if you bought one of those.

I am ashamed of you guys.
Well, EBA song list isn't for everyone, way too much pop song, but I would rank this game higher than Guitar Hero (painful add-on buttons!) and Rock Band on DS for the sake of originality!

To the OP, what games are you into? There is no shortage of great games on DS, I would recommend looking at 1up's special:

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Looks like this system has a bunch of great games for me to play. I totally forgot about the Advance Wars series too! I beat the first one on GBA. I'll definitely have to check out the DS versions now.

Do you like RPGs and strategy RPGs? The DS is the go-to system for this type of stuff. My favorites:

Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, and IX
Etrian Odyssey I, II, and III
Final Fantasy III, IV, and the 4 Heroes of Light
Glory of Heracles
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
Legacy of Ys: Books I & II
Luminous Arc 1 & 2
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
Nostalgia
Phantasy Star Zero
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

For action/platformers make sure you check out New Super Mario Bros, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Contra 4, and Metal Slug 7.

Both Zelda games are solid too.
