There are so many little details in this game. Like how Rydia initially refuses to use Fire magic due to what happened to her village.

This is the farthest I have gotten in this game since 1993 and there are many things that I had forgotten. It's pretty much like I haven't played before.

There's oh so much you've missed out on! And if you think the story is good now, just wait. It gets better.

Who needs a story when you have awesome music playing to heroes *flying* around on black chocobos? Yeah, you read that right.

I got FF Chronicles in the mail this week and started playing FFIV today. I've played some of the SNES version before and my sister had the DS version, which broke almost instantly (it was probably a pirate cart).

PSX version is the best. The PSP version has widescreen and pretty graphics, plus the bonus content (which I heard wasn't that great).

From what I can tell there's no loading at all. The translation is a lot better than the original and it's also much harder than that easytype. It's also better with the standardized class/magic names (Summoner instead of caller, no Falling Down, etc). There's also a "run" key that lets you dash. Very useful. Can't speak for PS2 or PS3 glitches, though. I just used a PS1.

And, call me crazy, but I feel like the music is a lot better. It's not an audio CD, but it seems to be streaming from the disc rather than being synthesized on the spot (I was so curious, I left my PS1 open and started the game, holding down the button that lets the system know the door is closed). Music stops immediately when you take the disc out and starts again when you put it in.

So far the gameplay and music has sucked me in. The story seems pretty interesting so far but it's too early to tell whether it will deliver. What I really love is the characters and how everyone reacts to each other. Your own townspeople are afraid of you - the bartender even offers you free drinks because he doesn't want you to stick him! The Mysidians hate you, etc. It's a lot better than the rock-throwing citizens in InFamous, actually. The main character interaction, like between Cecil and Rosa, is totally stunted though. I guess they could only hold so much writing on an SFC cart, so it's not a big disappointment.

I'm also loving the challenge. It's the hardest FF other than Tactics and I need to think about timing rather than just mashing Attack.

So...best of luck playing this. I'm really liking it so far.

Final Fantasy II is mainly what got me into the Final Fantasy series. Golbez's music is probably the best music for a villain.

Nope. Kefka's theme. It's a scientific fact.

Yeah, scientific fact for creation scientists and flat-earthers. The reality is that the only song from FFVI that can compete with the best of FFIV is Terra's Theme.

Oh snap.

FFIV takes the cake with the best final dungeon theme in the series, no question for me.

Gilgamesh is awesome, but I wouldn't call him a boss. His first appearance on the big bridge was the single most epic part of FFV.

As for you o.pwuaioc, FFVI is the most genius soundtrack Uematsu ever created. It kicks the crap out of FFIV's on all counts.

lol, to each their own of course. I'm not sure which OST I prefer myself, but I love how consistent FFIV's is and the whole thing blends in together perfectly, probably the soft and epic piano vibe it gives off throughout every single track. It has a beautiful old school early generation SNES tone to it that I can't love enough, just classy stuff. The game definitely has a lot of my favorite themes in the series, the boss theme definitely being my favorite out of all the FF's, and things like that.
