Just started Final Fantasy IV (PS1 version). Actually playing it for the first time, lol. I've had 5-13 for the longest time, though. I'm really liking it so far, though. It's more difficult than the newer ones for sure.

The game is long by my normal gaming standards - I've sunk 25+ hours in already and am anticipating 35-40 when all is said and done. Coming off Shining Force as my first tactical RPG, is quite complex! I'm enjoying the battles, though the story - while interesting and involved - is also a little bit confusing at points. The production qualities on the PSP version are top notch, though.

I am curious - where does LUCT rate in terms of difficulty and complexity compared to other games in the sub-genre?
It is very high up there.

The story in the PSP version isnt too tough for me to follow, I think the re-translation cleared it up. But the difficulty is definitely there, especially if you dont grind at all. I am a bit biased, but I think it is the best SRPG out there.

With SF being your only other SRPG experience, then yes this is definitely a difficulty and complexity ramp up. Though part of SFs charm is its simplicity and retro-ness lol. I am about 70 hours into my PSP TO playthrough and am in chapter 4. Lots of sidequests open up in Ch 4 and I love devouring all that content, so my playthrough will easily be 100+ hours.
Yeah, I sunk in 60 when I ran through the SNES version, and only spent a little time at the Hell's Gate bonus dungeon (goes up to 100 floors, and you can do it three times if you want everything out of it. lol, I got to floor 50).

Longest SNES JRPG I've ever played by far. I'm also with Jmustang in that it's probably my favorite SRPG for sure. I can't wait to replay it and go the other routes and change up the choices, and my game style.

You might like Arc the Lad dsheinem, maybe give those games a whirl sometime (the first two). They were really fun to me, really fun gameplay with a cool modern fantasy setting, just had an awesome vibe to it.

Still playing Eternal Sonata. 10 hours in and just reached Forte. Really enjoying this game except the 2 1/2 hour dungeon I was just in. Forte Fermada or whatever it was. I could kind of understand closer to the end of the game, but not this early. Goddamn.

As for Nalls voice, nolstalgic. I can't stand the terrible English dubs that RPGs get, but I do enjoy the cheesiness of Lunar.
My B/S/T thread! :)

Lunar is a series I have , as an RPG fan, criminally never played. Which version is the best? I have the 3 main U.S. releases. I was thinking of going authentic with the Sega CD release, but I have heard many think the PS1 is the better version, with some extra stuff.
