Games not Beaten 2012

Post by Gamerforlife »

Well, I don't think anyone has done this yet for 2012. We had one going for 2011 that got more of a response than I expected. So I made another one for the new year

My first entry:

Starfox 64 3D

Sometimes, I wish people would leave well enough alone. One thing that they added to this enhanced port that really annoys me is the new Score Attack mode. First of all, I should say that I hate redundancy. The original Starfox 64 gave you medals for getting a certain score on each level. So basically, it already had a score attack mode built right into the game. The fact that they added in another one is one of those things that makes me want to bang my head against the wall and makes me think of the Lewis Black bit about the two Starbucks across the street from eachother(

Secondly, I considered it a pretty tough feat to get all medals in the original Starfox 64. Expert mode made it even slightly harder. I encountered quite a bit of frustration in attaining all medals in expert mode back in the day. With Score Attack mode, they INCREASED the score requirements for getting gold medals, essentially making something that was once already tough enough infuriatingly hard and a nightmare for a completist. What really boggles my mind though, is that the new, revamped "3DS Mode" for the main game makes getting some of the medals easier than it was in the N64 version, but then they throw in Score Attack mode where it's harder than the N64 version. What the hell Nintendo? Do you want things harder or easier? Make up your stupid mind! You took something that only the hardcore players cared about in the original game and made it simpler in the story mode, as if to say, "Maybe we went overboard with those score requirements in the original game" but then throw in a Score Attack mode to make it harder. Does not compute

Also, the 3D effect sucks, as it does for every 3DS game I play because you can't move the damn system without the 3D effect going wonky. Plus, it adds nothing to the game anyway. 3D on the 3DS is just a gimmick. The new gyro controls are awful and only exacerbate the problem of moving the system around and distorting the 3D effect

So yeah, I'm really turned off by this port. In fact, it seems they changed other things from what I've heard like the voice actors and dialog. I didn't really notice, but I'm sure it'll annoy purists.

Thumbs down for this port, messing up one of my all time favorite games you Nintendo douchebags :x

Received a game for Christmas called Call of Juarez The Cartel.
It's horrible, I can't actually bring myself to play it anymore. I hear the other games in the series were okay, but this is just plain dreadful.

YES. It's good to see someone else give this critique of the 3DS, as I made it many times around launch and was always shot down/ignored. These BASIC features of the system are incompatible with one another, and designing gyroscope 3D games on a portable system is a horrible idea.

And I'll keep telling you that I'm quite happy to use 3D or Gyroscope controls as I see fit. I like having the option.

No, and I don't have to. I don't see why you think it's so important. If I use gyroscope, I don't use 3D. I don't see how including an extra control scheme that gives the possibility for more games and more game modes is a bad thing. So I don't use 3D all the time. I didn't always use the touch screen on the original DS, but that was it's main selling point.

It's a fallacy of logic. You're saying that the 3D and gyroscope are mutually exclusive and that that means they're pointless, but that's only true if you assume that you'll be using both of them at once. It's not a requirement, they're their own seperate features

Mutant Mudds

The game has generic looking character designs. The gameplay features ZERO innovation for the genre. Your character can jump, shoot and hover. Oooo, never seen that before in a platformer )

It also features cheap and obnoxious level design, particularly in the hidden areas. This game is utter mediocrity. Stay far away if you take platformers seriously. Nothing to see here. Just another derivative game from another hack, indie developer

Yeah, so what?

It's not like I'm posting that on some official Nintendo forum, in which case I know I'd be banned

I haven't played this yet so I can't comment on the quality of Mutant Mudds (although I've heard nothing but positive things so far), but I have to pull you up on your comment about the developer. Renegade Kid put out nothing but quality on the DS.
