debating whether or not to get a Sega CD

Post by harper »

So I know this guy who's offered to sell me a model 1 Sega CD for $50. He's had it all fixed up and he's been holding on to it for me. Since I first told him that I was interested in it, I've come to the realization that I need to stop buying stuff for the hell of it. I mean I'm interested in this thing because it's neat, but are there really any games for it that aren't expensive as hell but still worth playing, and buying the $50 system to play them on?

Model 1 SCD for $50 is a good price, and there are some good games for SCD that aren't expensive. Sonic CD, The Terminator, Ecco: Tides of Time, The Amazing Spiderman vs The Kingpin, Mickey Mania, The Adventures of Willy Beamish, Panic!, and a few others.

Except that besides those and a few others, there's not that many good games for it, period. If you're a die-hard Sega fan and you already have all the good games for the SMS, GG, GEN, SAT, and DC, then by all means, get one. It's certainly a better idea than a 32x. Otherwise, the consoles I've mentioned would be cheaper and have a much better library.

I had one, kinda wanted another one, but ultimately decided I didn't need it.

For the handful of worthwhile games, most of the best games are simply slightly better versions of games which are easier and cheaper to obtain elsewhere.

I will admit, part of my love for the system is fueled by nostalgia.

make sure theres enough space on your outlet strip for the extra plugs.

you need two sega bricks to make it run.

and one more if you're gonna use a 32x.

Your Sega CD will play CDRs, so don't worry about price. There are plenty of games that make the Sega CD a worthwhile purchase. And if you disagree, it should retain its value for resale.

Yeah you guys are pretty much making me lean towards not getting it. Which is fine with me because I'd rather be practical about it. I know the thing is awesome and would look cool, but I could get most of the games elsewhere. And yeah I know I could burn the games and play them that way but I would just much rather have the real thing. That's why I haven't just modded my Saturn for $30 and said goodbye to spending a bunch of money on games for it.

And to GameMasterGuy, I happen to adore my 32x. haha

If you enjoy the 32X you should enjoy the Sega CD too. Hope you have a model 1 genesis to go along with it. The tower of power is a thing of beauty.

Harper if you don't want, get it and sell it to me. I've been looking for a working and affordable model 1
