Eh, I prefer Tekken, Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur to the Street Fighter series personally.noiseredux wrote:if by "Street Fighter" you mean Street Fighter, then yes. Re: Together Retro: Golden Axe Warrior
I'd rank those series as such:
1. Street Fighter
2. Dead or Alive
3. Soul Calibur
4. Tekken
though I've only played Tekken 3 much from that series...

It is a much stronger, more consistent series IMO

I'd be hard pressed to choose which of those 3D fighters is my favourite, but I just really don't like Street Fighter much at all. I haven't played many other 2D fighters though, outside of the NGPC.

Re: Together Retro: Golden Axe Warrior
Smash Bros incorporates platforming and party aspects, Killer Instinct has a ridiculous combo system, MVC is over the top and has 3v3 combat, Tekken has its limbs, and Mortal Kombat has blood, gore, and a bit of humor. Street Fighter 2 may have revolutionized fighters into what we know them as today, but there isn't a single aspect of it that's not present in some, if not all, other fighting games. Nothing sets it apart from the competition... well, besides the soundtrack, but you can hardly argue that that alone puts it in the #1 position. Personally, here's my rankings:noiseredux wrote:I don't know what you're attempting to say here^GameMasterGuy wrote:the second was extremely influential but did nothing to make the series unique from later series to expand on the fighting game formula,

actually I was wondering why we were comparing three 3D fighters to a 2D fighter.alienjesus wrote:I'd be hard pressed to choose which of those 3D fighters is my favourite, but I just really don't like Street Fighter much at all. I haven't played many other 2D fighters though, outside of the NGPC.

I gotta say, as much as I'm not a big Street Fighter fan, I have to rate it higher than Mortal Kombat. Those games just aren't very good.

Competitively I agree, but it does have its merits.
KI being the near-perfect fighter that it is, it also has something like this, but the point is SF doesn't really do anything special, whereas things like this show the little bit of extra effort that gets put into MK games.

Dang, the mere mention of next month's TR title is causing the sharks to stir up the waters in this thread pretty fast.
why don't I see virtua fighter series in that 3d list

And you're all clearly insane. It would be all right if the controls were fixed. Heck, here's a vintage magazine review agreeing about the terrible controls.noiseredux wrote:I think that's true.
