I have two DS3's. One was used and came with my PS3. The other I bought brand new in the Little Big Planet bundle. Last night I noticed my "new" DS3 was having some weird issues...
I booted up 3D Dot Game Heroes and noticed that very often if I hit UP on the d-pad or left analog stick, it would bring up my map (L1 button). It got to the point where I could barely play. 3D Dot Game is slightly infamous for being a somewhat buggy game... So I tried restarting the game. Same thing. Then I started to get really nervous. What if it's my PS3?! But for the the hell of it, I switched to the "used" DS3 and guess what? No map popping up. Everything normal.
So now I'm curious, has anyone had such a problem develop with their DS3? Is it something fixable? Is the controller on its way out already (only bought it in April/May).

Sounds like something could be making a connection between the up and L1 buttons, which is kinda weird. There isn't much space on the inside between those two areas. It might be worth it to open it up and see if all the rubber connections are in the right place, otherwise its a circuit problem.

could a screwy BlueTooth connection cause this, you think? I wonder if I should try re-synching the controller?

Wouldn't harm anything to try.

Check and make sure you didn't buy a crappy knockoff.

it was sealed inside of the Sony packagaging which sealed inside the Little Big Planet boxset, so I don't think so...?Hobie-wan wrote:Check and make sure you didn't buy a crappy knockoff.

Re: wonky Dual Shock 3 ??
I had problems with my R2 being randomly activated. It made Demon Souls 10000x harder than it already was. Made blocking in MK9 impossible as well. The problem only happens after pressing it once. If I watch netflix or play a game where I never use the R2, it doesn't happen. Resetting it didn't help either. Looks to be a pain to dis/reassemble so I haven't done that yet to see if there is a faulty connection.
It was the official controller that came with my PS3 and had the problem within a week of purchasing it. I decided to get another blue DS3, which works great.
