Ron Paul
Re: Ron Paul
I would love to see Ron Paul win, just to actually change something for once. Breaking the corporatist hegemony is the only issue that really matters. Do we need all those federal agencies? Probably, in some form or another. But we should at least have a national conversation about why we have them and what we really need from them. Ron Paul's the only one willing to have that conversation. I'm quite sure a Ron Paul presidency would be appalling, but continuing on as we have been would be even more appalling.
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
Re: Ron Paul
I have to be honest. I hate talking politics, especially when everyone has an opinion (and their opinion always seems to be the right one) and hardly anyone has any idea what they're talking about. That said, Ron Paul is pretty loony. In fact, this might be the first time I don't vote...at all. I don't have a dog in this fight, and I'll still complain even if I don't vote.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I doubt in my lifetime I will see a true leader as our President. I mean, it's awesome that our President called kanye west a jackass, but what I'd love i to have a President with some, for a lack of a better term, balls. Even if it goes against what I believe in, I'd love someone in office who does what he or she thinks is right, and could care less about public opinion as long as our economy and social reflection is surging.

This is why we should have elected Hillary.Luke wrote: I'd love i to have a President with some, for a lack of a better term, balls..

I can get behind that.dsheinem wrote: This is why we should have elected Hillary.
My heart still says she should have left Slick Willie after the first dozen times he was caught cheating, but I also think "No Hillary, no brains, no Bill". At the end of the day I think Bill was the one being played, and if that is the case, good on Hillary.
Plus, STOP the Suffrage!

I don't like all of his ideas either, but I do like the overall theme. I think states should be given more power, and the federal government less. I don't think that all federal agencys should be removed. I think things like the EPA, Voting Act, and Civil Rights Act should all stay in place.
Anyways, I'd prefer it if he won over anybody else. Frankly the media seems scared of him even.

I don't see why I should trust a state government any more than the federal one.

It opens up more options at least. If you don't like what one state does, there's 49 others to choose from.AppleQueso wrote:I don't see why I should trust a state government any more than the federal one.

Consolidation. It leads to more accountability and responsibility.AppleQueso wrote:I don't see why I should trust a state government any more than the federal one.

Moving is a HELL of a lot easier said than done. I'd rather have a centralized government than 50 loosely affiliated separate countries with open borders.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:It opens up more options at least. I understand the reasoning behind 'states rights', but god don't you think you're being awfully fringe when you seriously think we should leave something like Civil Rights up to each state? (I am not accusing anyone of taking this position in this thread btw)

Re: Ron Paul
So you don't believe in the US Constitution as the rule of law in our country? Every one of his "crazy ideas" come directly from the Constitution of the United States of America. The federal government has only the powers given to them in the Constitution which are meant to be severely limited. The vast majority of presidents since the early 1900's have done everything in their power to limit the Constitution and create an illegal grab of power away from the sovereign states and towards the federal government. It's views like this that take away our freedom and liberty and will essentially turn our country into the next socialist state.dsheinem wrote:Moved.
I give Ron Paul props for persevering through media snubs and for sticking to an unconventional platform. Too bad so many of his ideas are batshit crazy.
In other views, I am a Precinct Captain for Dr. Paul here in Minnesota and I implore all of you voting in caucuses and primaries to look at his voting record and how it supports the Constitution as opposed to the other anti-Constitution candidates and ignore the crap that the government and big-corporation media would like to foist upon you. There is no legal political difference between Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney or Mr. Gingrich or any of the rest of the candidates for President... abortion and other "social issues" are state and not federal government issues.
