Progressive Ad Targets Gamers

Post by SpaceBooger »

I was watching Seinfeld tonight and saw the newest Progressive insurance commercial. Like all the other Progressive commercials this one featured Flow in the store but the customer was not a family or a dorky guy from another company instead it was SONIC the Hedgehog.
The commercial caught my attention because it used the music from the game and started off with Sonic running... I was surprised. I know Sonic is mainstream, I just never figured him to be that mainstream.
Anyway here is a link to the commercial.
I can't think of very many other non video game related products, other than cereal and other limited food products, that have used video game characters to promote already well known companies.

I actually kind of liked that commercial. It wasn't amazing or anything, it was just fun seeing it out of the blue.

At the end of the commercial where Sonic runs past the "PROGRESSIVE" letters like "SEGA" from the game would have been better if someone would have said "Pro-Gresss-IVE!".

Nope, they used the lame modern Sonic design.

The music was from Sonic 3 anyway, so really we're talking 1994. :P
