Neo Geo Tragedy 2012! :(
Re: Neo Geo Tragedy 2012! :(
Pretty sure if you win a claim they pay for the return shipping - speaking from experience, I've never had to pay return shipping. Also, better to lose out on s/h than to get stuck with a lemon console, even if you had to.

He must have broken it recently as it seems odd he would keep the little plastic pieces that fell off.
It's interesting that he wants you to pursue the courier though as in the past when i received something subpar, the seller would always offer money to compensate (ebay will recommend 50% for example).

Regarding the plastic bits, I think they could have either broken in transit, or were carefully placed where they'd be expected if they did.retrosportsgamer wrote:He must have broken it recently as it seems odd he would keep the little plastic pieces that fell off.

I hate to admit my naivety, but even the first response he sent me reads as embarrassingly suspicious.

Hmm, maybe I'm already suspicious, but yeah, that almost come across as:ebay seller wrote: Hello I am sorry to hear and see the damage to the unit. I'd have expected something more like:Oh shucky darn. Mean ol' UPS broke it? I'm gonna go give them a piece of my mind. They will not get away with this!
FWIW, you get $100 of insurance free on UPS packages, but I'm assuming you paid more than that for a boxed system so they probably sprumg for full value.Crap. I tried to make sure it was packed safely, being a big box and all. I did get insurance on it, so let me see what I can find out and get back to you. Sorry about that.

^ Yeah, I'm not sure what to think. Maybe he just made sure it was packaged by UPS & insured for the full value as any good seller might on a triple-digit item, or maybe it was all part of the plan...
At any rate, I don't expect he'd go for a 50% refund (as retrosportsgamer suggested), though that would be enough in this case to make it worth keeping for the working parts and factory packaging.
Thank you Hobie, LodeStar & retrosportsgamer for your input & suggestions. If any other ideas come to mind, please do share them.

Well, I've got nothing else to add except that the games for Neo-Geo are bloody expensive - are you sure you're willing to spend that kind of money?
Re: Neo Geo Tragedy 2012! :(
True, but the secret is in avoiding the major US prints and pacing purchases.Lodestar wrote:Well, I've got nothing else to add except that the games for Neo-Geo are bloody expensive - are you sure you're willing to spend that kind of money?
* Japanese carts are often cheaper (printed artwork being the only difference)
* MVS adapters are expensive, but open the door to the drastically cheaper cart format
* Around 8 or 10 early US releases can still be found in the $50 range which isn't too terrible.
Aside from that, there are really only a handful of games that are "must haves" for me, and none are anything I'd have to sell my car for (which isn't worth that much anyway).

I was just thinking of another member on here who spent about $500 on a Mark of the Wolves AES cart...love the game to death (see avatar), but I wouldn't spend that kind of cash on it. I love a lot of the Neo-Geo's library, though...

$500, if it was a US copy would probably be considered a "very good deal" these days.Lodestar wrote:I was just thinking of another member on here who spent about $500 on a Mark of the Wolves AES cart...love the game to death (see avatar), but I wouldn't spend that kind of cash on it. Aside from the early "dog tag" labels, I'm interested in a few of the Data East releases: Spinmaster, WindJammers & Street Hoop. Those don't come too cheap (especially the latter two), but I wouldn't buy more than one a year. After that I could more or less "retire" from Neo Geo AES collecting.
