Is it a LCD monitor, Model number? The monitor has to support a lower resolution of 640x480. Is there a VGA input port, what does the screen display?

HI...
Well it is not the mac display, it is the imac 27inch itself. Just bought he mini display port hoping that is was gonna work but nothing happens.... i plugged it with a VGA cable to a VGA box and to mini display port then to to the imac.

If I am not mistaken, that VGA port is a VGA out port for a secondary monitor. If so, there is nothing you can do to make it work as a Dreamcast display.

As fastbilly1 pointed out it will not work. Laptop VGA ports are output only for an external monitor. You can get a video capture card, a risk of lag and will only be for SVideo or Composite though. Maybe pick up a used inexpensive VGA CRT monitor? An added feature, the Dreamcast supports lightguns with a CRT VGA monitor.

this is how to use your iMac as an external monitor. I wasn't even aware it could work like that!

Still going to be iffy about it supporting 640x480 mode though.
