Your post made me sad. Physically. I frowned while reading it and probably did something awkward with my eyebrows too.
Certainly entitled to your opinion, but in all true context, the movie wouldn't have been made without the human leads. This was Jason's project, and also his dream come true to write a Muppet movie where he got to meet the Muppets.
I haven't seen it yet, but I really like Jason Segal (and thought his Muppet homage in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was excellent.) And Amy Adams is adorable.

Adams is cute and Jason seems like a nice guy, but neither can act...at least not in this movie.
Luke you can't begin to think that this film even approaches the quality and writing of the original show/films with Henson at the helm, can you? Especially in the show, there was such a counterculture vibe to so much of that stuff, a bititing satiric wit aimed at pop culture, and a level of creativity that was just mezmerizing. Aside from fleeting glimpses, all of that was missing from the new movie.

I'll give you this: Jason can act. But he can really only act like Jason. Really Nick on Freaks And Geeks is Marshal on How I Met Your Mother is Peter in Sarah Marshall is Sydney in I Love You Man, and so on. But I think if you're okay with the fact that really he just wants to play himself in his roles, then his definitely entertaining and has good delivery. Just my opinion.
I can't say I've seen Adams in a lot of things... in Catch Me If You Can she was mostly eye-candy. And a lot of her random comedic roles haven't really shown much one way or another. Though, I did think she was great in The Fighter.

so then he can't act you are saying.

Forgot about her in The Fighter...yeah, she's very good there.

I get what you're saying, but I gotta say, while I was watching the movie I got the distinct impression that they were doing that on purpose to give the spotlight over more to the Muppet characters.
Admittedly, I'm not all that fond of Jason and I would have preferred some different or more recognizable humans in the side roles (though I think all those cameos at the end were hilarious), but overall I loved it. I loved the plot, I loved the new songs (okay, maybe not so much the evil corporate rap, even if I did laugh when the showgirls went back into their closet with their Sunchips) and by the end my friend and I were humming along to Rainbow Connection. In the end, it made me happy and I hope to God it made a lot of other people happy enough that they can overlook it's flaws and give me a sequel (or a good Muppet adaptation of a literary classic. I don't care which, but damn you Disney, make it happen!)

That quality of writing can't be duplicated, and I don't believe that was the intention. Rather, I do applaud the fact that the new Muppet movie strayed from popcult references as much as possible. I see what you are getting at, and yeah Fozzie wears fart shoes, but for me the human actors weren't a distraction for me at all.
It would take Micheal Bay directing a new Muppet movie for me to hate it, with all of that in mind.
*thinks* I bet he'd make Miss Piggy wear a thong and dry hump Beaker.
Rented a few films this week after not watching much over Christmas..
Horrible Bosses - Not normally keen on these glossy comedies but this was good fun thanks to Spacey mostly. One of the three protagonists (not sure that's the right word for them) had a really annoying voice though. 7/10
Bridesmaids - Heard this film was meant to be as good as The Hangover (which I found overrated personally, the sequel however I was rolling in the aisles). It was alright, maybe more for the girls. The large girl off Mike & Molly was annoying though. I don't know if it's an American thing or what but I find that show humourless compared to Two & Half Men or Frasier. The writing is in another league. 6/10
The Change Up - Better than I expected, my girlfriend wanted to see this and I actually enjoyed it. Jason Bateman is quite likeable, and Olivia Wilde is HOT. It was a bit over the top with the swearing and the sex jargon, almost like the writers were trying to do The Inbetweeners. Watched the unrated version and there was particularly nasty scene with baby shit in Bateman's mouth. Was eating my dinner and let's just say my eyebrows rose to the back of my neck. 7/10
Arriatty - Studio Ghibli film I didn't know existed until I was in the rental store, enjoyed this film a lot. The animation and art work is simply stunning! The woman doesn't "do" subtitles so I was forced to watch it with English voice acting, and let's just say it was ok, the father character may as well have been voiced by Robocop though. Was horrid! There was a few plot holes where a character would inexplicably go missing and no reason why the cleaner wanted to destroy the little people's house, but overall it was a good Ghibli film, if not great. 8/10
Mr Popper's Penguins - I'm a massive Jim Carrey fan, particularly his 90s work, and this film felt a lot like Liar Liar. He's an ignorant businessman who then has his life changed by being sent penguins by his dead father's company (or something? Not too sure!) and every other thing Carrey says I'm creasing up. I hope he does more of these family comedies, as it's what suits him. 9/10
