Turok problem

Post by RCBH928 »

its not exactly a problem, but I wonder if any one found this game enjoyable to play. I bought this game because since ever i was young this game defined the 64, so i finally bought.

I just had my first game session, while the controls are confusing a bit my biggest issue is level design. This game has such a huge level with about only 4 textures used: sand, grass, water...i think thats about it. its very easy to get lost everything looks similar and if u switch the map on you dizzy its so confusing with the map turning around and trying to figure your way out. I am a fan of fps and never got this nausea feeling except with this game. i played Quake ans enjoyed the game, but this?

Is this issue faced by me only? or is an issue this game had since launch? or is the age of the game is starting to show? i dont think I will play this game anymore although the concept and gameplay is fun

The blandness of the levels and resulting confusion is one of the most common complaints I hear about Turok.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

I actually like it quite a bit. I think I got to level 4 before I really gave up on it (though I do plan to get back to it one day). It does take some getting used to, with the controls and having to explore a bit. But eventually you'll start dying so often that your surroundings will become more and more familiar. lol

This thread made me realize that the game I devoted hours of my childhood to (over Goldeneye, Mario Party, and Diddy Kong Racing) was NOT the original Turok like I thought it was, but actually Rage Wars. Anyways, that game was awesome.

if this game always had those issues why did it get good reviews?
its hardly a 7/10, infact i give it 6. Too bad I cant enjoy one of the games i looked to play most of my life!

and yes i am talking about the original.

Two reasons:

1. It came out in 1997, during a time when N64 offered pretty slim pickings. It's not like it had a lot of competition.

2. It just aged badly. It really was considered good back then.

Frankly, I don't think anybody these days would say that Turok is a defining game on the n64. It's just a relic of its time.

FWIW, I seem to vaguely recall the sequel being much better.

I played it a fiar bit last year, and once I got used to the odd controls I quite enjoyed it. The maps were a bit confusing but enjoyed exploring them.

Its hardly a defining game, but like AppleQueso says, it didn't have a lot of competition when it was released.
