With the obvious exception of RPGs (I don't know why but I could never get in to Phantasy Star or anything like that), my own personal preference leans towards the Genesis for almost every genre. This makes me happy when I can get complete Genesis games for 5 bucks :D

Who are 'they' and how would you know?

"The point was the colors and the extra tree layer of graphics. Not eye roll worthy IMHO."

He didn't say anything of the sort, he said they're not the same. If the point is to show differences, then one should show all of them.

...also, what extra layer?
The SNES one has that tree/rock column/whatever in the background as an additional layer, in addition to having the capacity to display enough colors for it all to be a different palette than the foreground.

I love the fact that Genesis games are so cheap. My Genesis collection just keeps growing and growing--all of it for pennies!

Nintendo has a Disney-like following that eclipses the amount of people that know what the Megadrive can offer them. Their original price is mostly irrelevant now (see: 3DO), it's demand what increases the price.

There's also a quite ardent following for many SNES games that don't have a direct equivalent in the Megadrive, sure, Megadrive RPGs are very good but none have the followers Final Fantasy has.

I like both systems, but believe the SNES is superior in every possible way. If a game is on both systems, I will pay more for the SNES version.

I do like how I can sometimes find Genesis games CIB, but loose SNES carts always feel much nicer and sturdier than their Genesis counterparts.

At my local retro game store, the SNES games are meticulously lined up at eye-level. The Genesis games are on a very low shelf (almost on the floor), haphazardly tossed together, and covered in dust. The contrast is staggering.

+1

There are exceptions, but for the most part, the SNES versions usually have better graphics and sound.

+1 for me as well.

However.... being a collector, I feel the need to own both versions usually. But I only ever want to actually "play" the SNES version. LOL.

What can I say? I'm a fan boy from waaaaaaay before that term even existed on the interwebs.

(oh yeah, with the exception of Aladdin, and a few others....)

This is a pretty bold statement. SNES hardware is generally better (although when it comes to audio it's subjective, one can prefer the way Genesis music sounds), what should really matter is the game libraries. Which is nothing but a matter of taste. Like with any console argument, there is no "better" console.

I dunno, there are some consoles that I think completely outdid their competition.

However, in the case of SNES vs GEN, I don't think either console is better. They both have a wide range of games from each genre (e.g. SNES had a better rpg selection, and GEN had a better shmup selection, but they both had good rpgs and shmups)
