Wireless Wii Sensor Bar Not Working?

Post by darthmunky »

I bought a wireless Wii sensor bar (for use with Dolphin) but I can't get it to work. I know the bar itself turns on at least because the red light is on. But when I try to play games, there's no arrow or pointer on the screen. I tested it on the Dolphin emulator and on my actual Wii console. I also tested the Wiimote with the official Wii sensor bar on the console and it worked so it's not a wiimote problem. Anyone know what's wrong here?

Hmm. Is the controller sync'd with the emulator? (Such as recognizing button presses.)

I thought the iR sensor bar is the equivalent of putting two candles by your TV, so your Wiimotes know where the TV is, but not as flammable.

Yeah the Wiimote works on the emulator, all the buttons. Just no pointer. And again, I tested it on the console with and without the original wired bar as well. It didn't work with the wireless one.

To check if the IR leds are working, point a digital camera at it, cheaper the better! I included a pic of my sensor bar for reference...

Here's mine. No lights except the power light.

Take it back, it's broken! Seems super odd that the power LED is lit, but not the IR ones...

The thing is, I bought it on ebay and the seller's account no longer exists.

Some digital cameras have IR filters on them. FWIW.

Just light a couple of tealights, for the price of a wireless sensor bar you can get like a thousand of them.

Pull it apart!

Post pictures of any solder joints inside, hopefully it'll be a real obvious solder break. Could you fix something like that? Know anyone who can? The Wii sensor bar is LITERALLY the same circuit as a flashlight would use.

Or, use the parts, plus other stuff on hand to build a working bar...

I personally had no end of trouble using tea lights, but YMMV...
