Oh yeah I'm fine, it was hurting pretty bad and swelling at first though. Now I just have a lovely red mark.

Just a note on your little debacle there, unless the packaging/documentation states you get an install disc for Windows 7, most modern systems do not come with them anymore. A full backup of the OS and all system-related software is now on a locked partition on the hard drive. Look on the system and see if there is a D: lettered drive on there, and it should read RECOVERY or SYSTEM right next to it. That is what the computer will use for restoration or re-installation if necessary.Ziggy587 wrote:Smile: My brother and I went halves on a computer for our Dad as a Christmas gift. I think it was a pretty good deal, it comes with a brand new, legit copy of Windows 7 Pro.
Ticked: The brainiacs forgot to put the Windows disc in the package. It was pre-installed on the computer, the authenticity sticker is even on the computer case, but they forgot to ship the disc to me. OK, not that big of a deal, I'll just email them and explain and hopefully they'll get me the disc.
This was a few days before Christmas. I emailed them the day I received the package. I got a reply the next day and it basically said to call them up on the phone. ::face palm:: Why bother giving me an email address to contact you with if all you're gonna do is tell me to call you up?
I figured they weren't open on Christmas, so I called them on the 26th. "Hello, you've reached US Micro Corporation. We're currently experiencing high call volumes. Please press 1 to wait to speak to the next representative." So I press 1, it rings a few times and then goes to a voice mail or answering machine. OK, maybe they're off the day after Christmas. That's cool. So I called yesterday, same deal. I called again today, same deal!
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they're off this week. Some small businesses vacation this week, I think. But if that's the case, why not tell me that in the email? I email them and ask for help, and I get a generic "call us" message... I don't know, maybe it's me.
Anyways, I just emailed them again and explained that I tried calling the past three days and asked if they could help me through email. It's a pretty simple problem to fix. Hopefully I wont get the run around too much longer with this.

Yes, I'm aware of that. However, this is a refurbished PC. The company uses special versions of Windows from Microsoft to install the OS with.

It's like a regular retail version of the OS, right down to the packaging, only the authenticity sticker actually says "Windows 7 Pro Refurbished PCs" on it. Some bone head just forgot to put the disc in the box when they shipped it to me.
edit: Luckily, I just got an email and they said to provide the order number and my name and they'd get the disc shipped out to me.
I guess each representative has their own email at the company's domain. The first person that replied was some lady that told me to call them. When I emailed them again today, I got some one different and it seems that he took care of my problem 1, 2, 3. He asked for my order number, I emailed it to him, he emailed me back saying the disc will be shipped out tomorrow. Took all of 5 minutes. So easy.

So MS still gives out Win discs to computers? Refurbished ones, at least! That's a smileZiggy587 wrote:Yes, I'm aware of that. However, this is a refurbished PC. The company uses special versions of Windows from Microsoft to install the OS with.

My son got a new toy, a brand new PC. He went with a local independent store that lets you piece together the components from their online site. It came with all the driver discs for the Motherboard, Ethernet and Video card. Saved on purchasing the Windows 7 disc since we already have an Upgrade WIN 7 disc purchased for the Laptop Vista machine. On a back note when we purchased the Laptop Vaio Sony Factory direct, it did not come with install discs. I screamed at Sony to send me the original pressed discs, got them a week later.

Anyways my plan was to install either the Sony Vista discs first or my Slipstreamed Win XP Pro discs and then the Upgrade Win 7 disc. I found out you can trick the WIn 7 Upgrade BY INSTALLING TWICE. After the first install serial number entry fail, reboot and install a second time to the same directory. The Upgrade disc "thinks" it is actually doing an upgrade and then allows the upgrade serial number to be entered.

Ooooh. Yeeeaaaah. Gotta watch those. They can be a pain.....Unless your my seafaring friend. She seems immune to those damn things. Last time she got stung she didn't even realize it til she saw the red marks. Then again, she used to work at a wildlife park, so maybe she just has a higher animal-inflicted pain toleranceBoneSnapDeez wrote:Ticked off: Took my first step into the beautiful waters of the Florida coast. Smile: I was right about why my PC's LCD screen had died, and my gamble to order and and replace the power board (~$25) instead of replacing the entire LCD (~$200) paid off. That's the first time I fixed a monitor of any kind, so it was a cool thing to add to my "technical know how" list.
Ticked: Not much ticked me off today, though I visited a local bookstore that is going out of business, which is always sad to see.
