He's lying. One of the post-1888 IP that he likes is 3D Dot Heros.

I'm not sure if that counts though, because it's just Zelda.

Hyperdimension Neptuina definitely counts though.

Personally, I love the old games. Don't get me wrong. But I can still well enjoy the games of today without a problem. I'm with Weekend Warrior on this one.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Then he played Catherine and all that went out the window.

Also, Shadow of the Colossus.

the funny thing is I've come around in the last year or so. I can at least think of Little Big Planet as one of the top of my head. But certainly it's taken a lot of time and exploring new games to find newer things that appeal to me. And quite honestly, much of the new games I like now are updates or sequels to things I've liked for years (SSF4, Sonic Generations, etc).

EDIT: oops, hadn't read page 3. So yeah. Apparently you all saw what I was talking about hahahaha. But yes, SotC, Catherine, 3D Dot Game Heroes are all great examples of newer IP's that I totally adore.

Across DC, PS2, GC, Xbox, DS and PSP there's a huge amount of different kind of games and original ideas and less original ones, and you find tens or even hundreds of interesting games if you bother look into it a bit. I don't know where even to begin. Wii as well, but motion control might not float everyone's boat.

PS3, 360 and PC are not so interesting now when it comes to mid-level games and risky ideas, which PS2 is especially full of. PC gaming isn't nearly as solid as it used to be sometime ago, but the extreme niches are there and indie scene is active, which should not be overlooked. A bit of a lull moment (at least in my eyes), but if you go at least bit back to the last gen stuff, Wii and the portables, you find countless of great experiences if you still like games.

Well as long as everyone understands I was talking about a concept, not an absolute fact. I mean, there are a couple newer IP's I like such as Shadow of the Colossus and Portal...but that's a couple out of how many new IP's have come out since 1999? That's the point I was making - for some of us, the odds of developing an attachment are much lower with newer IP's compared to what we discovered as kids.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

agree totally. I mean, if I made a list of my top 100 IP's or whatever -- probably 75% or more would originate between 1989 and 1999.

Well today I am certain I'm a retro game. Went to gamestop in the mall picked up god of war 3, tekken 6, and super mario mix, buy 2 get 1 free deal and I saw the line waited for a few minutes and I said fuck it, bought a sega genesis instead with sonic 3 sega 6 pak and streets of rage 2.
