I haven't been too impressed with what I've seen of Rifftrax, but then I'm more of a Joel guy. That said, one of the jokes in the preview clip for Return of the Jedi had me rolling.

Like the MST3K show, rifftrax are hit and miss. Although I loved the Twilight riffs, Transformers 2 was just unwatchable, and the Jurassic Park and Empire Strikes Back ones were merely OK. Often I think they're enslaved to their source material - the movie they're riffing has to be so-bad-it's-good funny on its own, they just accentuate the unintentional humor that's already there. When they riff films that are genuinely good (Star Wars, JP, LotR, etc.) it's not quite the same. Some movies are so awful nothing can salvage them (I'm looking at you, Michael Bay). But that's no surprise since the MST3K had a lot of episodes falling into the latter case (Monster a Go Go, anyone?)

I'm reminded of such turkeys like The Castle of Fu Manchu and Hamlet from Season 10. It takes a tough crew to handle such bad movies.

Their moto is "We don't make movies....we make them funny." So I get that they're trying to make all movies funny (which is a noble effort), but I agree. The better ones are the movies that are already pretty bad to begin with. I don't think I've ever laughed harder than when I watched Zombie Nightmare.
