Hello,
I have searched everywhere on google,i have a big problem with my dreamcast and this is the first time im not able to fix something..
It happened one day when i was playing sonic adventure 2,I was plugging in a jumppack, suddenly the dreamcast resets itself and it isnt fullscreen anymore and jumppack doesnt work at all.
The startup logo is fullscreen but i can see dots on on the place where to logo is supposed to show up, it also misses a sound it makes i dont know how to describe the sound some kind of popping sound after the swirl appears,is missing.however..when i put the dc on a small tv then i do hear the sound..very strange..
my games still work fine, but its all missing screen..i dont know if its 4:3 but its worth to mention sa2 was a ntsc version,i have a pal dreamcast. i cant play normally because im missing all this detail.. im sure its not the cable or the tv,its the dreamcast im possitive.
the bad part is, i barely got a chance to play the damn thing!
also there are strange things happening when i plug the jumpack in the menu.
It doesnt recognize the jumppack on top of that after i plugged it in,the controller stops working but works immediately when i plug the jumppack out again..
also it happened once it started to vibrate, non stop when i tried to plug it in.then i had to plug it out of course.
all the games is missing screen, off center also the dreamcast menu, has strange pixel dots if you look close. It could have been that i played a ntsc game in combination with a jumppack on my pal dc that could have triggered this mess,im not sure.
I did everything i could think off
I dont know what to do..i think the dreamcast bios is messed up. Can i fix this,Or do i have to life with this? i hope someone can help me out..when i bought the dreamcast,it was perfectly fine,640x480 worked perfectly fullscreen, didnt have to change anything on the tv,now its just barely playable, but i irritate to much so i dont play, also the 2 jumppacks i bought never got used.i hope someone has answers, maybe someone had the same experience,i cant be the only one i think
in the foto's you cant really see because of the poor camera but my fingers shows the black bars.
excuse my poor english writing

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
Sounds like the jump pack is bad for sure. I don't know about any weirdness you'd be getting from mixing PAL and NTSC though.

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
Hi,
i got 2 jumppacks brandnew,madcat
its the dreamcast thats messed up. i think i need to rewrite the original dc bios i cant find another solution. im sure if i tried the jumppack with another dc it would work fine.
i paid like 60 euro for dreamcast it was unused for a long time, and the time it was used it wasnt played to much.also it reads just fine, kinda noisy like any dreamcast.my only option i think is to solder with kynar wire and flash it with dreamshell. Im pretty sure the bios is messed up.i was hoping to find a better solution also i mentioned it once started vibrating non stop, and it was flashing so the jumppack works fine.
so im the only one having this problem?? i saw nobody on google having the same issue

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
If it helps any, I don't hear lots of positive things about the MadCatz jump packs. There have been issues that users have had with them. I'd stick with the regular Sega jump packs before you have to flash BIOSes or anything. Also, make sure your connections are tight in the back so the audio and video work correctly.Unexist wrote:Hi,

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
yeah i really checked if the cable was properly inserted,i even took apart to check, cable's fine.
thats good to know about the madcats jumpack. But its so strange that in started to vibrate nonstop. And the big problem is the screen issue,When i play like resident evil i miss so much detail and its choppy as hell because of the ratio. Im out of options i think,i never flashed the bios and id rather reinstall the normal bios than overwrite it with the dreamshell bios.
I need the proper disc with the bios on it,Does anyone know where to download?
i have searched my ass off i only end up with dreamshell,link158 bios.

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
I don't think the bios is the problem. The jump pack probably shorted something on the motherboard. You could just buy a new motherboard. Soldering in a new bios chip is a pain, and you need to boot the old bios to flash the new chip anyway...

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
hmmm..You make a good point about that motherboard,Cause i did read you should never insert jumppack during game and i wondered why
stupid thing..they should have figured something out that this wouldnt happen when inserting jumppack
I got my vga cable from racketboy today, still has the screen issue but i do hear the popping sound again after the swirl.Still missing screen, and no full screen. Also when i insert a pal game ,my tv goes to ntsc 4.43 something like that otherwise it wont fit at all, when i set the tv to pal the screen goes like half the way up so i cant even see the game. So i do think its a region issue when i was playing a ntsc game and inserted a jumppack, the whole mess began. But still al my games do work fine, vga works fine to..Is it really the motherboard?
isnt it the bios that takes care of the region information?

Re: Serious Dreamcast issue
im not getting any wiser i think..
im going to try to put a new normal dc bios chip in,maybe that sort things out,it that doesnt work then i can be sure its the motherboard.
And i cant buy another dreamcast because i bought this one for like 60 euro in europe. One in really good condition no scratches, and reads well.
ill post how it went
