There's no "Contra II", and Contra 4 ain't really Contra 4, but whatevs.

Konami has been one of the worst offenders.

You're forgetting a couple.

Contra Force (which came out after Contra III, no, not "Contra 3" but "Contra III"), Contra: Hard Corps, Contra: Legacy of War, The Contra Adventure, Contra: Shattered Soldier, Neo Contra, then Contra 4.

One that pops to mind is the two Ninja Gaiden series. I usually call them Ninja Gaiden or Ninja Gaiden Xbox. That one's not too hard to keep seperate.

yeah the NES title screens had roman, but not the box art.

Never saw the box art outside of conversations revolving around how bad they were, and TBH there were much worse box arts on the NES... well, at least compared to 2-6. 1's was pretty awful.

Even my beloved Resident Evil series has this, which shouldn't be a shock since it is Capcom who made 100 different Street Fighters 2.

Now that isn't counting the spin off Survivor and Outbreak series, and they are canon games! Seriously, Zero mentions Survivor in the intro. So if they come out and call the next one Resident Evil 6, it will be the 8th or something like that in the "main" series, and the main series also acknowledges the spinoff series existence! Ughh

If Capcom does "Reboot" the series with the next one, please please don't call it "Resident Evil." Then there would be 3 different games with the same name
