Sega Megadrive 50/60hz mod - Partial Success

Hi Guys,

I have followed the steps used by damomonster on youtube to mod my PAL Megadrive, this includes a new crystal circuit to colour correct.



Here is the thing, it kind of works? Sonic 2, Altered Beast, Aladdin work great in 50/60 mode Sonic 3 works in both modes but in 60hz the music goes faster but the game goes slower?

Then games like Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate dont work at all. the "Under Licence By" screen pops up but then the nothing?

Help!? Where should I start looking?

if sonic 3 is PAL then the game runs 16.3~% slower, by changing to 60hz the game is overclocked in a sense.

im shooting in the dark here.

also the bgm in that vid was annoying. he solders beautifully tho.

I've got sonic 3 and a 60hz pal md at home. I'll try and check it out tonight and see if I get the same issue. However I didn't do the video out put fix like you, I just made an RGB cable instead as I wanted to be able to get stereo out of the model 1 and into the TV.

As for the games that don't work - have you tried booting in 50hz and the switching to 60hz? Some games check this at start up as a sort of region locking feature, although most the ones that I have seen will tell you that the game is running on the wrong console.

Mortal Kombat 3 just wont work at all now in any mode or combination of switches. Sonic 2 still works perfectly in 60/50 however.

I am pretty sure I have fingered it...

How do you have your switch wired up? If you can, take a pic of your switch and jumpers.
